they can gain weight by free feeding them, meaning u keep the bowl full at all times. if you fed your cat only at certain times of the day then u can control their over eating, half a cup of kibbles 3x a day is great. you wont be starving them. dry kibbles keep them "fuller" longer and ull be rewarded when your cat comes up to you when its time for a feeding. theyll learn the schedule and "remind" you.

When I visit a zoo,I feel sad when I see our big cats getting fat and lazy. They're supposed to be all the oposite! That's why I prefer to watch The Discovery Chanel! I wish this little one be in good health.

I agree with the animal health tech -- I seriously doubt a normal cat would get that fat on its own, cats naturally like to play and run. I also doubt the owner has a whole lot to do with it either.

I have a friend with a black lab with serious thyroid problems and she is enormous, she looks like Jabba the Hut. You can't take her out in public without uninformed people confronting my friend to say things about how it's animal abuse or how she needs more exercise or they ask how much she gets fed at night.

As for the above comments they are both right and wrong, this cat can already have a thyroid problem and that is why it is so fat. It certainly isn't healthy for a cat to be this overweight and I hope the owners are getting it the appropriate care. I know, I'm an animal health tech.

that is a fat fuckin cat!! Holy Gaucamole!! I had a cat for 13ys that weighed 22lbs and I thought he was fat but alas he has been dethroned...and to the comment above about "loving your cat to death"...a cat is an animal, if it is hungry, it WILL eat! We never overfed our cat he ate regular cat food from a bowl...cats are like humans in that they can get overweight just from being lazy not the food they eat, as well as hormones.....

What is really scary about this poor cat is that the owners have literally "loved him to death". His morbid obesity will now result in diabetes (if he doesn't already have it), thyroid problems, structural problems and will lead to an early death. I hope they can love up on him now, because he won't be around too long.
