    In the September 24th, 2008 episode, during the part about "What Natural Disaster is Most Likely to Kill You?", the announcer stated, (in conjunction with a graphic), that the speed of lightning was 186,000 feet per second, when, in actuality, the speed of light, (hence the speed of lightning), is 186,282.397 miles per second, which equals 983,571,056.4 feet per second.

    The difference between the actual speed of light in feet per second and the figure stated on your program is an astounding 983,385,056.4 feet per second, resulting in one of the largest errors of fact that I've ever seen broadcast on any TV program in my lifetime.

    Thought somebody might like to know how badly some fact checker screwed up.

    Caperkco, you are an idiot. Lightning is NOT light and therefore does not travel at the speed of light. L2SCIENCE

    @ coversation, I stand corrected. Nonetheless, according to multiple sources, the speed of the downward propagating leader of a lightning bolt has been calculated at between 60,000 and 93,000 MILES per second, which is still, at the very least, over 1700 times faster than the program's stated speed of 186,000 FEET per second! (IE: 60,000 miles per second is equal to 316,800,000 feet per second. ) The program's information was undeniably, grossly inaccurate. THAT was my point!
