there's only one word to describe this film: TASTELESS!
I saw this last night and it was so bad that it made me want to scratch my eyeballs out! I am definitely one to enjoy comedies and get a good laugh but this film (done in a cheesy bad version of SNL) only feeds to the stereotype of Arabs and Jews.
What's going on in the middle east is a human tragedy and this film mocks it in an utterly bad execution and manner!

Just saw this and was amazed at the idea of a spoof of a take-off. The film maker has certainly shown, not only how indefensible the current climate is in the mid-east, but how we can laugh at ourselves and use a film such as West Side Story as a jumping off point. WSS was one of the worst films made as it was so sanitized as to be a joke. Yet, using this film, already a take off of Romeo and Juliet and aiming it back at us today is a work of genius. And all in the name of capitalism!

This was a very creative and energetic film that I greatly enjoyed. The discontent between the Jews and Arabs was tastefully addressed and brought to a resolution showing that anyone can get along - if you want it bad enough. Thanks to a great author and director! Kay Ball RN

This was hilarious, as a huge broadway fanatic, I found it hilarious with the common chord progressions in the music with this and WSS. The stereotypes were evenly spread which made it amazingly easy just to laugh, it was almost done in such a way as a farce to how we act. and for "whochxx" to know, west side story was one of the most influentle and revolutionary broadway musicals to date, with leonard berstein music and stephen sondheim lyrics you can't miss. The movie was one of the greatest musical to movie transition and still a complete classic. You don't have any room to talk about a movie musical if you know nothing about american musical theater.

I found this clip extremely entertaining, and was pleased with the nomination for an academy award. I believe that mocking the lunatic actions of both sides makes the film all the more enjoyable.

To SoundbySondheim: Try to understand that WSS was poor film: a hideous version of R and J that had knife-weilders singing and and dancing! I understand that the music was fine up to a point. Some of it was inane and Broadway tunes are often happy/silly as well. Some of the acting in WSS was miserable. I do not doubt it was influential, I doubt the quality. See quality v. popularity!
