It's so good to hear some sanity from an Arab for a change. Mind you there are only handful of brave Arabs and or Muslims willing to risk the wrath of murderous militants. We can only hope that this voice will compel a greater appreciation of the matter.

Concerned Citizen Wafa Saltan was trained as a Medical Doctor in her native Syria. She is not Indian as the last poster erroneously suggested. One of her Medical Professors was assassinated in the middle of a lecture to medical students in Syria with Wafa also present by radical Islamic Militants trying to force their backward and barbaric attutudes and opinions on the population. They were miffed that Women were being educated to be Doctors and Professionals. Needless to say, she and her family snuck out of Syria since it is a country being taken over by barbarians who do not respect education, human rights, the rights of women, the rights of people to practice any religion or no religion in peace without harassmen, murder or torture. or violence or the rights of people to have freedoms of speech, assembly, free elections etc.. Think aobut it.

This is a very brave lady who has quite rightly identified the difference in living in the Middle Ages and living at the beginning of the 21st century. It seems that some Muslims are intolerant of other religions and of other people and their beliefs, cultures and traditions. It is time for them to drag themselves into the 21st century and instead of trying to destroy other religions and peoples begin to think how they can benefit mankind.

Wow. All I can say is wow...She is very brave to tell an ugly truth. As concerned citizen pointed out, Ms. Sultan is not Indian, she is Syrian, and also happens to be a naturalized citizen of the United States, so neither she nor anyone of her immediate family requires a green card. Check your facts before you make such ridiculous remarks.

If you want to know the truth, even if it is from someone who is not Muslim, go read Edward Said, the prominent 21st Century theorist. Interestingly, Wafa Sultan, like several other people, are able to zone in on some common Orientalist conspiracy theory. This is generalized and highly dramatic. Another interesting fact is that Sultan is able to boost her career simply on feeding the misconceptions of the people who posted before me. Maybe she ll convince you to go back to code orange. If anyone is the zealot, it is her.

It IS refreshing to hear this brave opinion firmly expressed. I suspect that some of the facts may not be entirely accurate eg I believe it more than likely that an extremist Jew has some time or other done such things as Wafa claims no Jew has BUT that is neither here nor there these perpetrators of whatever creed are equally extremist and terrorist. We need to remember that we in the West are also not squeeky clean. But the fact remains that in essence she is right. At this presnet time there are too many Muslim extremists supported by extremeist organisations and nations. The problem is that if we put aside the problem of Islam's apparent support of violent promotoion of it's faith (and I am not convinced that is any more true now as the Christian Inquisition and crusader history) then we will NEVER have peace in our time (or our childrens') if we rely on or allow extreme polarisaed views and phi;osophies. The question is: How do we prevent thsi in a demopcratic society? It can't be by conducting a war and occupation like the Iraq situation has turned out and is today being conducted. Off hand I cannot think of the answer - but it is there somewhere. Whatever it is htough is dependent on goodwill between all men(and women) of whatever persuasion. I could go on but in short we must be commit PEACE, we must work on it, we must give up anyn prejudices on both sides to stand a chance of achieving it. I applaud Wafa Sultan and the many others bravely seeking peace by trying to resist the present and destructive polarity in our society. I am English, a Christian but have worked in the Middle East and have a great respect for the Arab culture and people. God Bless us all at this Christmas time 2006 and provide Hope for the New Year to come!

All too few people in this world have the clarity of mind to see past archaic thinking and point the direction for the FORWARD progress of mankind. We are just now entering a chapter of history where (similarly to the 60s-70s when changes in social thinking fuelled by visionaries changed our attitudes to race and sex discrimination) a few visionaries will show the way the global community must begin to conduct itself. These people will inevitably be written off by the archaic establishment as freaks, dismissed as dreamers, tarred as treasonous or blasphemous agitators, etc., but their thinking will permeate the people until society has no choice but to listen to them. On this showing, Wafa Sultan appears to be such a visionary (though I say so conditionally, because secularism and science are fine, but there is nothing at all wrong with faith as long as it is not used as an excuse to foster prejudice. Islam is a fine and honorable religion which is being poisoned by radicals¿ but remember that Christianity far from spotless on this score). As I watched this video, two thoughts prevailed - the first was applauding the visionary, while the second was to be painfully aware that western society is still a long way from being able to say it functions with 21st Century thinking. Corruption in governments and corporations are crimes against humanity just as surely as bombs, but these crimes are shielded by the Blame Culture, the morass of the stratified and overblown legal system, the illusion of popular complicity called the ballot box, and the apathy created by affluence. One can cite simple examples of litmus tests which show alarming shortfall in how far leading western countries still have to go before being worthy of the adjectives ¿21st Century, Tolerant, Humanitarian¿ rather than early 20th Century ¿Confrontational, Prejudiced, Discriminatory and Extremist¿. Why in a society where racial, sex, religious, etc. discrimination against minorities is now not only social

Why in a society where racial, sex, religious, etc. discrimination against minorities is now not only socially unacceptable but legally forbidden are smokers persecuted to the extent of being not only segregated but completely denied accommodation (c.f. Apartheid South Africa, 1950s), be spied on at home (c.f. Communist witch-hunt, USA, 1958), or thrown out of their jobs, (c.f. early Anti-Semitism policy, Germany 1933)? How can any country which reserves Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness as fundamental rights designate gambling not only effectively prohibited, but have laws regulating it toughened up (extended into cyberspace)? No credible constitution or article of human rights should ever allow such disgracefully antisocial policies to exist. If relatively minor matters (if you consider the rights of 170,000,000 people in the USA alone ¿minor¿) cannot be handled equitably, how badly can major matters be fouled up (corporate interference in the democratic process might rank fairly highly here..)? Do you feel comfortable parading around declaring that this is what emerging democracies (or those trying to forge a modern society that still respects religious traditions) should be aspiring to? Unfortunately we do not have the luxury of time on our side. Only since the very recent collapse of the Soviet Union has the world looked around and realised we¿re all in the same boat, and the boat is under serious threat from the fossil fuel crisis, the threat of climatological collapse, an impending population explosion and the soaring extra demands which will arise from the impending industrialization of vast Eastern nations. We not only need visionaries to get us on track, we need lots of them, we need people to pay attention to them and we need their wisdom FAST. Yes, many will step forward who only have their own interests and preferences at heart. These must be recognised and shunned. Unfortunately for us, in positions of power both at home and worldwide, such selfis

Unfortunately for us, in positions of power both at home and worldwide, such selfish and thus inherently antisocial and ultimately dangerous people easily outnumber those who genuinely have the best interests of their country and the world as a whole at heart. Winter is coming, and instead of chopping wood, stocking food and repairing the cabin, we¿ve spent all summer fighting, first over who should get to decide the rules of the cabin, then when that was over, tinkering around with trivia about who should be allowed to behave in exactly what way. Come winter, those who ¿won¿ these arguments will be just as dead as the other occupants. Unless the people on power get their fingers out (or we remove them and put in people actually competent to run a country instead of party-political robots, campaign-fund-hyped puppets and busybody nanny-state social engineers), it will be ironic that Wafa Sultan mentioned the Middle Ages, because technologically we will probably be regressing rapidly back towards the Middle Ages before this 21st Century is out.

Where were you all these years Doctor? You are talking about the heart problem of the Arab world dominated by men; about the clergy using religion to subdue women and to become political leaders of the "Nation". Alas! The Israeli incursion distorted our struggle and gave these males a pretext to deviate from the heart of the problem, which is the social liberation. Democracy starts with the freedom of speech, God bless you. We in the Arab world cannot open our mouth with a single word that does not please the political rulers. No Wonder the Americans are happy with the Saudis and the Jordanians and the Syrian rulers. They want us to doom in darkness and stay backwardy on purpose because if we wake up one day and have democracy, Israel will feel threatened. Saddam is another question because he was a crazy bloody idiot. No wonder the British have blessed the Moslem Brotherhood. Did you know all these things Doctor? People like you Doctor should lead the nation and abolish all religions, absolutely all of them, starting with the middle ages moslem clergy. However, you do not know anything about Charlemagne army who sacked dozens of peacful christian spanish villages under the leadership of Roland (The City of Pamplona is the example). Where was the king of Spain then? You do not know how many christians have been massacred by the Crusades in Lebanon and Palestine. With all due respects Doctor I invite to correct some of your facts.

I can't believe Al Jazeera actually aired this video. Later they probably edited out all the explainations and left only statements taken out of context so they could bash it. Children are being taught in schools to resist the "occupation" of the U.S. We don't want to be there any more than they want us there. It's just that change is hard. And the 21st century U.S. is a WHOLE lot different than 21st century Iraq and such. It's like hundreds of years behind. ( no offense ) But you'd have to be raised in Iraq till adulthood then come to the U.S. to understand. They want change yet they fear it. Factions fighting for control like to take the place of the controlling Saddam. They believe they will be better but they are behaving the same way. I'm sure it's hard to think out of the box they grew up in.

Very impressed. Without trying to undermine Jewish ingenuity however, I wouldn't say that most breaktroughs of the 19th-20th centuries came from Jews. They came mostly from citizens of the Anglosphere/Western Europe.

I've recently tried to upload similar news clips about Islam or Muslims to my SPIKE page - but THEY REJECTED THEM or MADE THEM "PRIVATE". As far as I'm concerned, this is call CENSORSHIP or REPRESSION OF OUR FREEDOMS. The news clips are from various known news sources BUT SPIKE WON"T EXCEPT THEM FOR "PUBLIC" VIEWING. No "hate" speech, no threats, no nothing considered "bad" on other video sites. What is SPIKE AFRAID OF? - ISLAM? MUSLIMS? How about T R U T H.

A friend just sent me a link to Wafa Sultan. I'm very impressed. And I immediately wanted to say so. But on the other sites I looked at, there was a spew of hatred at her. Here there is some hatred - but also lots of understanding. She makes sense, says what I've heard over and other from people from Muslim backgrounds who don't support the violence and hatred encouraged by passages in their religious texts. My big point: why such hatred? A great way of not listening, not taking in what she says.

For other Muslim voices that support what she says about the Muslim religion - meaning they show Wafa Sultan is accurate - click here:

Look before you leap and think before you speak.... I fell disappointed to hear Wafa Sultan shouting because shouting does'nt make you point valid.... I dare everone... she was lying for motives she know better. It could be a mater of green card, here personal envy or whatever but one thing is sure she was acting as an innocent pigeon who closes her eyes to avoid an hunting cat.... If you dare to know the truth just do one simple thing..... Check out any of these sites www.irf.net or www.islamtomorrow.com.... Wafa you need to know the religion of Islam before you open your filthy mouth... Its always better.... This world is in trouble just because of people like Wafa.... who are ready to speak anything for their personal interest...... Just stop this non-sense... and if you are so committed I dare you to speak to Islamic scholars of repute..... I name few for you....

    1- Dr.Zakir Naik ( president IRF India)

    2-Yousuf Estes

    3-Abdul Rahim Green

I can give u a list that you won't be able to go through..... Just take some time and think again............... U think u r trying to maline Islam..... yes you are but you know why people are coming to Islam especially in US.... just because you people maline Islam and general public in an effort to verify these facts..... ultimately submit to the true religion of Islam... Think again
