Description: A crowd of protesters show their disapproval against homosexual relationships.

As the politics of union threaten to divide the country, the filmmakers take a look back at marriage through the centuries and the current debates in Washington, D.C. surrounding the issues. They also investigate a few real cases of the pain inflicted by society's refusal to acknowledge that the bonds between same-sex couples are as solidly fused as those in heterosexual unions.
