Sorry, but totally fake. Obviously the "sounds" could have been produced from TicTac boxes, etc., but this is just studio work with skillfully edited video.
#1) Yes, it's possible to occasionally find "volunteers" that MIGHT have a moderate sense of rhythm, but not to this extent, especially with the deadly clean stops-and-goes going on. Not to mention that the technique involved to make a TicTac box behave like a shaker or maraca is tricky, and difficult to maintain even for a seasoned percussionist.
#2) Even with the "wireless mics" attached to the "instruments", it would be impossible to achieve the perfect sound balance presented here. And if you watch the volunteers carefully, very seldom are they actually moving in time to each other, or to the rest of what you're hearing.
#3) The movement of the bandleader on his TicTac "panpipes" doesn't even begin to match the notes that are being produced. It reminds me of bad "instrument-syncing" in old movies where someone is randomly moving their fingers without any idea of how to actually play the intrument.
#4) The quick "triplet" figure that the leader starts out playing with his feet (which would be impossible to execute anyway) continues even when it's obvious that he has stopped dancing to play the "panpipes".
#5) The "cymbal machine" that is dropping TicTacs one at a time would be impossible to hear once the other instruments started, yet it continues to keep a beat through the whole piece. Not to mention the fact that when the piece stops, it does too. By itself.
#6 NOT TO MENTION that the piece stops, without any cue from the leader. And at one point it speeds up immediately, without any real cue from the leader or indication that it should do so.
Is this a viral marketing tool for Ferrero, the company that makes and markets TicTacs?
