What's wrong with our country. Snotty brat teenagers. Sure it's a free country, do what you want, but it should be an automatic 3 day suspension AT LEAST for disrespecting the national anthem like that.

Yes this is a free country but THAT is ALSO school,I see classroom disruption, insubordanation, and nonparticipation. They only thing that is required for them to do to is that they stand up quietly for about three minutes. I work in a high school with 3300 students and I would of had him gone with an 3 day easy just for being a punk. Is it REALLY such a violation of your rights to stand up for the length of a song and shut the hell up for the men that are dying so you can???

With a moron like dubya in office, is it any wonder why our youth are disillusioned?

That kid needs his ass beat. I hate kids like that. The teacher needed to be a man and let that boy leave the room, with 2 black eyes.

classic. so, the protest is how come he can't stand up for a few minutes while the national anthem is played or the pledge of allegiance is said-because people are dying in Iraq? Fact straight: People are dying in Iraq because we have no real way out of that sandpit. I believe if we were in a real war, defending real rights, they would entail the right to stand up or sit down during anything. I would rather have an honest person sit down if they don't believe in something, than a hypocrite stand in place of a real patriot. And as far as standing corrected, most schools will allow students, in advance, to say whether they choose to participate in flag/anthem tributes, and not suffocate their rights. That teacher is could be alot more severe than cursing the students out, because the next day-he's the one leaving class, not the student.

that teacher was awesome! and he totally made a fool out of himself in front of all those kids, which probably made him more angry because they were all laughing at him.... just goes to show what happens when two hard headed people go at it.
back in my high school years this kinda happened (not to the point of yelling and chair pulling though) but the student took it all the way up to
district administration and the kid ended up never having to stand up again for the rest of the year. that was always the law (in my county at least),and the teacher knew that was the law, but i guess she thought she could make everyone do it anyway. then after that year the pledge of allegiance was never broadcasted over the intercom again.
hats off to the kid who managed to catch it on video though, i would have been too scared of getting caught and further enraging a crazed old man!

Though the teacher went nuts, the non-compliance from that student would be enough for a referral.
If the teacher just asked to students to stand for thier country and not for the teacher, then all this may have been avoided.
The classroom may be full of jugheads, but a calm, firm, yet fair demeanor goes a long way.

The disrespectful kid should be sent to live in the inner-city of Bagdag for 1 year. Or the inner cities of any other third-world country for about 1 yr. I would luv to interview that kid afterwards.

I served my country for eight years, I fly my flag of the United States with respect. Do I believe that kid "must" show the same respect? No, because that is what the flag represents...freedom. He could have made that kid look and feel like a real idiot in front of his peers with some well chosen, calm words.
I can't blame the teacher for being upset though, especially if he is a veteran or if family members of his died over seas...who knows the context of the anger he displayed.

Each time that I witness events such as this, I am saddened. The young have no respect for anything, including themselves. Is it any wonder that the U.S.A. is sliding into the cesspool of apathy when we care more about who Paris Hilton is banging than to show any pride in your home? Disgusting.
