did you guys see the episode where ryan talks about it, and simon explains. he said he was talking to paula and he was rolling his eyes at her. they then show the clip of what was going on at the table while chris was talking and it expains everything. he said he would never disrespect anyone like that. you can see it on youtube if you don't belive me. but i really don't think even grumy old simon would do something that horrendus.

He's not being insensitive. He's not being "non-American." He's reacting to the ridiculously obvious attempt to deflect attention away from him sucking as a singer. I get sick and tired of events like this (Columbine, 9/11, etc.) where people say things like "I can't believe this happened. I was planning on going to that school last year but I changed my mind and stayed with my mom. But if I had, there's a good chance that I would have been one of those people who got killed... (tear drop)"
Simon shouldn't be fired for being insensitive. The people who use national crises to divert the cameras toward themselves need to be "fired." And by that, I mean beaten.
But seriously, get over it.

Simon Cowell is a shameless twit with a misplaced career path. A judge on a half heartedly produced and totally overrated talent show does not make you king of the world or any other kind of deity which portends to look down on the commoners on the stage as lowly pond scum. Simon, please fall silent at times when decorum is needed, no matter what is scampering through your head at that time.

The next night they played back the conversation that the judges were having while Chris gave his VT shout out. They weren't listening to Chris and had no idea that a reference to VT had just been made.. Simon was rolling his eyes at the idea that anyone would try to sing nasally. He also apologized for the confusion the next day and made clear that he would never intend to disrespect the victims and their families.

Simon already addressed the isssue on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, saying:
"We must address this crazy story that appeared that I rolled my eyes disrespectfully at Chris because he made the comment.
"The truth is that I had switched off at that point. I was saying to Paula, 'What does he mean he was singing nasal-y on purpose?' I didn't understand what he was saying.
"So I hadn't even heard what he'd said afterwards. And my eye rolling is what I was saying to Paula. I have never heard so much rubbish.
"You know what, half of the time I can't hear what they are saying, and I don't think they can hear what I am saying."
Richardson had defended his performance, before he said: "My heart and prayers go out to Virginia Tech. I have a lot of friends over there. Be strong."
look it up on google and you'll find this in a variety of sources.

You know what IChris thought that Simon was done talking to him and I think that what Chris done was a good thing. I didnt hear anyone else say anything about Virginia Tech.... Simon did not say anything about Virginia Tech until someone said something to him the next day about the controversy going on.... I live in Virginia about 40 minutes away from Tech and I think that Chris done the right thing... I dont care what was going on he is showing support to his friends and to his state and there is nothing wrong with that... I dont think that he was trying to avoid what Simon was saying to him I think he wanted everyone at Tech to know that he was thinking about them while he is representing his state....

the comment made by the contestent was obviously made for 2 reasons...ONE - to defray the comment made by simon (which, by the way was ALL about the music, and "American Idol" oriented) about him singing "nasally," and TWO - to make a desperate effort to soften the hearts of the american public - he obviously was shaken by simon's comment....after all, it's getting near the end and the voting public is watching him - what bullshit on the part of this kid. underhanded and so transparent. if the rule existed, he should be disqualified. it's unfortunate for simon that the public will "go" for this crap. cheers simon.

give me a break. wow the man cant even roll his eyes? usa always claims to be a country of freedom, but its extremely regulated as you can see. so what if he rolls his eyes? its funny how people find it acceptable for simon to be bashing the singers all the time making them cry and now you cant accept him rolling his eyes. people love the meanness of this guy and now all of a sudden you find it unacceptable? make up your dam mind. and if you dont like what hes doing, dont watch his show. its that simple. no one is asking you to watch. i never liked his attitude and never watch the show. i think the show is not interested at all. but as far as him rolling his eyes, that is his right. i have more of a problem with him insulting peoples singing.

Simon wasn't rolling his eyes at the Virginia Tech comment, he was rolling his eys at Chris' pathetic excuse for singing like crap and for using the VT incident as a diversion. Unfortunately the camera seems to show otherwise. Something that was corrected on the show the following evening. Stop making mountains out of molehills.

I agree with the people that say he did because of the comment Chris made BUT!! not to show no respect for the familys of the victims but because he felt Chris was trying to deflect the critisism, THE PROBLEM though is the idiot Cowell when asked why he did it said it was because of something totally diff. He said he was discussing the performance with Abdul and it was a comment she made that made him roll his eyes. For someone who's good at thinking fast he failed this time.

If simon were just rolling his eyes at the blow off why didnt he state that at the time instead of waiting till the end of the show!? Here's the straight scoop:
1.) Chris is from Virginia and has been distraught since news of the tragedy broke. He had several friends on the campus of Virginia Tech at the time of the shootings.
2.) Simon did not intend disrespect toward the vicitms and their families with his eye roll. However, the official AI line is not true, he did not, "not hear it" and was NOT reacting to Paula. As some have speculated, Simon was cynical of the timing of Chris' remarks and viewed them as a ploy to connect with viewers and distract from the criticism.
3.) Contrary to the official line coming out of AI, the "plan all along" was NOT to have Simon address the matter on behalf of the judges at the end of the show. This was a real-time, ill-conceived attempt at damage control after alert producers caught Simon's reaction. (Their instincts to address the matter were spot on, but they blew it. They should have had Simon say something along the lines of, "I want to clarify my reaction to Chris' comments about the tragedy at Virginia Tech, we all agree wtih Chris' sentiments, we all feel horribly for the families and friends of the victims, so let me be clear, my eye roll was for the unseemly timing of the comments which appeared to be a ploy to distract from our criticism in the same way that I am cynical about other contestants comments about loving puppies or sending birthday wishes to grandparents and the like..."
The official AI story is foolish and not credible. They would have been much better off to just tell the truth and be honest about what Simon meant. America would understand that and the matter would be closed.
This hokey explanation is pathetic. Perhaps they'd buy it across the pond, but it's not going to fly here.

OK, first, I agree with the people who think that Simon's reaction was not to VT, but to the guy "using" the VT incident to take away from the criticism he received. Very poor timing on the contestant's part.
Secondly, what happened to free speech in America? EVEN if Simon is an insensitive bastard who rolled his eyes at the mention of VT, SO WHAT? He has a right to his opinion.
People really need to learn to think critically about stuff instead of jumping to conclusions. Just cause Simon is an arse (and I think he is), I have a lot of respect for him, and his brutal honesty, which some of the folks who show up at American Idol obviously need to hear.

The tragedy that occured at VT is truly disturbing to everyone. To even suggest that someone would react in disgust to a comment about those events is incredible. Watch the video, Chris never even pauses between his rebuttal to Simon¿s comments and his condolences to victims¿ families and his friends. You really don¿t know what he¿s saying until he¿s finished talking. Simon was clearly reacting to the rebuttal to his comments and probably didn¿t understand what Chris was saying at the time. Sure, Simon cab be a jerk sometimes on Idol when judging the contestants but that¿s just good TV. Come on folks, you can¿t really believe the Simon, or anyone for that matter, would show contempt for the events at VT.

Any person saying that Chris was doing this to just "get the sympathy of the American people" or to "deflect the criticism and take the attention off of his bad performance" is just plain wrong. I went to high school and graduated with Chris. He is honestly one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Yes, this may not have been his best performance, but it is true that he has a good number of friends that go to the school and it was probably hard to have a happy-go-lucky, high energy performance while he was probably in the dark with the details of the situation (not knowing who had died/been injured). I am proud of him for using the limitied amount of post-song time he has to make a comment in front of millions not about himself, but about his friends and former classmates at Virginia Tech. Also, Simon did comment on the students and faculty at Virginia Tech, but not until after Chris did it and after the commercial break, in which he said "I would like to touch on what Ryan said and send out sympathies to Virginia Tech" or something to that matter. More than likely a producer told him of his untimely rolling of the eyes on camera and told him to make a comment so that he didn't look like the insensitive prick he is. The least he could do was say it was Chris that said it and not Ryan. I almost always agree with his critiques of the singers, but I am going to be a judge now, a judge of his character and go out on a limb and say he is an insensitive, egotistical, pompous prick.
Some things are more important than a singing contest.

We also noted that Chris's comment was ill-timed since it looked like he was deflecting the criticism.
