real culprit? Wha? A less disjointed version would be nice.
"Let's forgive her" ? Is this evidence of the same belief system that has predator monkeys,shit factory cows,snakes and insects of every description relegating humans to "also ran" status.

By your logic, since animals are beneath humans, they can't be held accountable to human laws of conduct and concepts of right and wrong. So regardless of how you rank elephants relative to man, you either forgive the beast for not knowing any better (in much the same way that most states in the U.S. don't execute people who lack the faculties to understand that they've committed a crime), or you forgive the intelligent being because it has been enslaved and was turning on its captor.
