The grenade is referred to as an M67, but appears to be a plastic mock-up of the very old Mk II grenade that was designed to break up into about 34 pieces of frag and had a median lethal kill radius of only 5 feet. The Mk II was replaced after WWII with the M26 that had a thin metal shell and a coil of segmented wire wrapped around the inside that was designed to break up into about 625 pieces of frag with a median lethal kill radius of 5 Meters. The M26 was replaced with the M33 (M67 with the jungle clip) during the Vietnam conflict. The M33 (M67) grenade is round and is designed to break up into many thousands of pieces of very small frag and has a median lethal kill radius of 15 Meters. All the above grenades can use the M203 fuse that will detonate between 4 and 7 seconds after the handle is released. Since 7 seconds is a long time and some were being thrown back during the Vietnam conflict, an impact fuse may be utilized that will detonate on impact .9 seconds after the handle is relaeased. If the grenade receives impact less than .9 seconds after handle is released, the fuse is safed so it will not kill the person throwing it should he drop it or hit a nearby tree limb. Just a little tech trivia from 20 years dealing with ordnance.
