Now, is he actually a racist or under the impression that he was making some sort of brilliant point on the use of language today? I believe it may be a combination of the latter and some serious stress!! bahaha kramer....

it does't matter. there is no excuse for this behavior. and the fact that he kept going, even after the guys got up to leave, he kept going. this is how he feels. the man is a a racist. i can't believe a person that doesn't discriminate would have come up with the things he said. i'm glad i wasn't there. i will never pay money to see him in anything ever. my money is green but the hand it comes from is black.

The black audience member's angry response supposedly justifies Richards' racist attack? Retroactively? You've GOT to be kidding. Don't be a moron and quit making excuses for the inexcusable. I don't care what the black man said, did, responded or otherwise. Using that word, particularly using it in anger (obviously unplanned), is inexcusable, particularly for white people. That blacks sometimes refer to one another in that way (as bad as that may be) provides no entitlement for anyone else. As white people, we don't own that painful word, we don't rent that awful word, we don't use that disgusting word. Richards' pathetic attempt to make a "Lenny Bruce" statement to cover up what he had said didn't work on me. Richards' true feelings came out just as surely as Mel Gibson's did when he was arrested. I wouldn't be surprised if Sick Richards goes into rehab too just to make a lame excuse for his conduct. I'll never be able to watch another Seinfeld without having a pit in my stomach every time Kramer barges through the door.

Wow, talk about self-destructing! I really do not know how Richards can recover from this loss of control and extremely negative behavior. All stand-up comedians experience hecklers on occasion and Richards really lost it. Sad.

To phlyphish1. Seems like you have a double standard. One for "whites" and one for "blacks" whom you portray as victims. That's where the problem lies. Racism is racism no matter from which groups it comes from. Stop making excuses for inappropriate behaviour based on the colour of one's skin. By the way, your calling another person a "moron" for simply making comments with which you do not agree just goes to show your own level of intolerance.

About 20 years ago, A comedian by the name of Andy Kuafman did a similair bit on wrestling and weman. He was in on it with Jerry Lawler, a wrestler, and got slaped on David Letterman for hype. This could have been set up with the Black man too. But if it was 100% real, then He was wrong. However when a black man says ni@@er, it is ok. A white man says it their racsist. I think the same thing as Chris Rock, that he said on his HBO special about 10 years ago, There are two kinds of each race, good and bad. The good is a exp, white man, and the other is a Cracker. One will give you the shirt off their back to help, and the other would steal your big screen tv, and try toshow it off you to the next day in their home. Rasism is wrong no matter the color a creed. But when is enough, enough? If a white man shouldn't use a word in a manner couse of rasism, then niether should a black.

To Oyelad: I can totally agree with you. By the way I'm part of that small percentage of decent Blacks. There's no justification for his words and behavior especially when he tried to stay in the moment due to a small amount of the audience continuing to laugh even after his racial rants. If we choose to call each other ''nigga'' then society should let us deal with our own politically incorrect vocabulary.

It amazes me it was only black people leaving, and there were actually people laughing. This is comedy? I am a white woman and I would have walked out. And because others are racist this is an excuse? He could have said something about him as a heckler, but it isn't fair to make comments that affect all blacks, which is what he did. 50 years ago we'd have a fork up your @ss? That hurts all blacks, not just the one who rudely made some comments initially. This guy deserved the fate he got....being a washed up has been as one of the men in the audience stated.

Wow, quite inappropriate...there's is something that troubles me however, how come every media clip of this shows nothing of what was being done or said to him? While this behavior is unacceptable, it seems his side is left out because he is a celebrity and lets face it...America loves to see celebs fall from grace...and those who try to profit from it, if that is also the case here, are all scum...leave those people alone. They have enough pressure to deal with. P.S. i am not a racist, but believe that those african americans that carry a chip on their shoulder are the most racist of all. They taunt and insult and then cry racism...is this what happened here? Or was this totally unprovoked. I would like to see a clip with the whole outburst starting with what prompted it. While im sorry to those who were insulted, if u are runnin ur mouth and harassing people u need to S.T.F.U.! I mean lets face it, there 2 kinds of black people, ones that are nice and cool-ppl i know and respect and are my friends. And then there are those stupid outrageous mother fuckers out there who think they are Malcolm X...get over urselves.

KEITH, I eat at the same table as anyone else. I could care less. Yeah, "Kramer" is a racist. So what. Lots of black folks hate whites just the same (I've got at least 1 dead friend to prove it). So lay off the victim role. Racism in America will never be quelled until everyone realizes: some PEOPLE are just assholes.

Look...obviously this is unfortunate that this would happen. But for anyone to start saying that racism in humor isn't funny is a hypocrite...I can almost guarantee that at least 90% of the people who saw this watch South Park. They use profanity and racism, bigotry, and all other forms of tastless humor and make it brilliant. What "Kramer" did was uncalled for, but don't try and rule out racism in humor- afterall, laughter is the best medicine.

Considering what black comics do on stage I don't have a problem with this. Just watch Def Comedy Jam on HBO. It's one long rant on how bad white people are. How many times has Chris Rock said Cracker or Honky? I mean how many black comics have we sat thru that go the white man talks like this. Or the white man walks like this. We didn't see in this video what led up to his blow up. He was being heckled by the black guy who he went off on. It took balls on his part to call a spade a spade. Nigger doesn't hold the same meaning it did 100 years ago let alone 50. Blacks have watered down the word in their music & film. Nigger these days is how you act not the color of your skin. If the man in the audience was heckling him and making an ass out of himself to draw attention and be a comic himself. Then he's a nigger. After all he didn't take the high road when it happened. He acted like a street thug nigger and called him a Cracker and white boy & threaten violence. Just like a nigger.

U can't justify what he said! But i get so sick and tired of people who contradict themselves about what other people say. We hear all about how people react to the video, saying Richards is this and that, but honestly they are doing the same thing; just not in the same perspective of course. In society today, racism is a big issue and is something that we need to address, and what Richard's did was wrong. We all don't want to admit it, but honestly everybody has discrimitory measures within themselves. The guy in the audience should not be let off the hook either. What he said in retalliation was just as bad as Richards' remarks. Racism i think not, but just a bit of anger and racial tension set this off. Seinfeld is honestly the greatest sitcom ever made. The underlying meaning of the plot is not known unless you really understand the basic concept of the show. All in all, Richard's is a good guy but he just has some anger issues to work out!

We need to get beyond the stereo-types of all blacks are ____ and all whites are ____. As to people laughing... well...they were at the "laugh factory." It probably had not sunk in just how "whacked" this guy was acting. And I don't consider this brilliant genious either. It sounds like someone who might have been taking some drugs and was not thinking. WOW how cool it is that someone can be outted like this by what appears to be a video phone. :) career = done.

hey guys im not neither white nor black but like god everyone should always get a second chance. I know in life everyone makes a mistake that you cannot take back from appologizing but as a human being but he should get a second chance but as a comedian his career is over people should understand he did do what he did from anger and probably didnt know what he was doing at that point. I just hope next time when he performs he wont do the same mistake again.

You can't take an incident from one shithead on stage and a few morons in the audience who laughed and label 90 percent of the white population. I believe there was a bunch of white people who walked out of the show as well in disgust.

A simple "nigger, please..." in retort would have worked without controversy, and generated some laughs. Instead, in an attempt to bully bis hecklers into submission, Richards evoked lynching imagery _then_ went to the n-word. Bad decision. Then he locked into it, instead of offering an apology and riffing off his fuck-up as a modulation into his next series of jokes. Michael Richards racist? Not on the basis of that incident alone. My verdict: When Comedic Fuck-Ups Go South.

wiking-it is not always 'okay' for black people to insult white people and always bad if its vice versa. take a look at comicview-every white comedian on there bases their whole act on making fun of black people, and the black audience laughs. when black people make fun of a white person, there is usually someone in your role complaining about it. if its funny people will laugh; if its not, they won't. this isn't about whether a race of people are pc or not, it is about if this one man was wrong. he was.

Ok, ok... thats it..you really want to know why white people cant use the n word. american whites werent slaves, american whites werent subjugated to believe that they were less than human, raised to believe that farm animals were worth more than them, american whites werent treated with disrepect and though of as brainless morons that couldnt even handle the most basic of tasks, werent terrorized for decades by radical groups (kkk, ayran brotherhood etc.) just because of something they couldnt control (theyre skin color). and im just not talking about blacks, this includes mexicans, asians and native americans. so if this group of minorities want to call each other whatever the want (even if those words are all fucked up)let them, the plain simple fact is that american whites havent suffered nearly as much as minorities. Jews cant make fun of how cheap another jewish person is because its theyre own right, theyre own inside joke even if its used in anger.same as a black dropping an n bomb to another black. just like guys arent suppose to call women bitches, but they call use on each other all they want. dont get me wrong ...all races have assholes, dumbasses, shitheads, racist and a whole load of other crap that i cant stand, but my question is , why does it bother so many whites that they cant use the word "nigger"? is it really that important?

In my eyes alot of people seem to be missing the point. Justifying your own racism by generalizing another race is just wrong. ie..KEITH.."90% of white people are racist at heart". I think that all races are too quick to point all the reasons they have for being hateful, and they fail to see that if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. WIKING- Thank you for your posting it's hard for me to believe that I've lived in Canada my whole life and I've never realized (until today)that I'm an "insigniicant liberal slob", with insights like that it really is hard to understand why many people around the world have a generalized idea of Americans as being ignorant and closed minded, it's not like people like you would feed into that idea....

I worry about all the Celebrity melt-downs. The life of a Celebrity is supposed to be a reflection of the best society has to offer. If they are at the edge, what chance do the rest of us have? Richards was wrong, but you can tell he was doing a character - - a very BAD character. I do not see Richards using those words in his own life. He sounded more like a black person rapping than a white person being racist. But I consider some of the remarks to be not only racist but threatening. (The first comment made, which I cant bring myself to repeat.) I have met Richards and he is the opposite of Kramer. He is a very shy man, and I would imagine suffered his fair share of teasing when he was young. Sometimes a person flashes back to high school and becomes that insecure little kid who just wants to be left alone. The only good thing that has come from him and Mel Gibson is that the deluded people who claim racism doesnt exist anymore can SHUT THE HELL UP!!!! I personally apologize for all racist comments made in the clip, Black and White. We all can do better than this. Remember Dr. King and his dream? And how about another King - - Cant we all just get along?

After all richards said what many amerikkkans feel when they get angry at someone who is not white, but dont have the stones to say it in public..the irony here is that as a jew, you would think richards would know better.... The very same people he was identifing with onstage:"the white man" is the same group who hates him and would joke about his ancestors being cooked in ovens.. what a dumbass.. The worse was the dumbass audience members who sat and laughed at his venomous racist tirade until the smart people started getting up and walking out.. morons.. then that 2faced cretin jerry seinfeld calling it a "mistake" and letterman giving this oaf a platform to save face... the amerikkkan way... *pukes*

I myself have seen endless amounts of comic shows where the comedian of African-American decent would act out a skit in criticism of “Whiteman” and mimicking how we talk. In most cases dropping lines like “white people” this and “white people” that and even making the “cracker” reference. After reading all the above responses I think back upon being at those venues and how I felt. I remember feeling like I was in the spotlight, very out of place, awkward, and insulted. Especially due to the fact that most people in the audience were black (and laughing there ass’s off). I felt very alienated! Now, not to say that what Michael Richards had said even compares to what I have witnessed, but in the event that the tables were turned and a white comedian was using the same references in reverse. I feel even that would be frowned upon with great disappointment by the black community. In my opinion, to black people I feel it would be a sensitive subject to even talk about a black person in such a way, but why do they feel they can do it? Shame on you Mike for saying what you said, but thank you for giving me the opportunity to bring up this point I always wanted to get that off my chest.

Here's what I get from this string of comments: two wrongs make a right. So when someone heckles a comedian, the comedian has a right to be a racist (or at least use racist bile as a comeback). Because minorities sometimes (appropriately or not) make fun of whites, whites have a right to use racist language and put down minorities. Because oppressed people use the language of oppression with one another, non-oppressed people should have the right to use the same language against the oppressed people. And to bobcd46A - yes, I do not think I have a double standard. I despise racism in any form, regardless of its source. But I do not condone a "two wrongs make a right" mentality, and I certainly do not appreciate non-minorities substituting their judgment for minorities in matters of identifying and dealing with racism.

I think he had a serious psychotic break for real, he must have some very heavy "baggage" he's been toting around. He needs to go to a shrink ASAP! On the other hand have you noticed it opened up the door for some much needed discusssions?

Covey/BigSall - did ya see the apology? Even HE admits it was no joke, that it was wrong, that he was wrong, that there is no excuse for it, that he wished he hadn't said what he did, etc., etc. If he's not saying its a joke and Seinfeld is saying it wasn't a joke, and Letterman is saying it wasn't a joke and the Laugh Factory management is saying it wasn't a joke (he's banned from there for life), why do you think its a joke? Don't go all "Andy Kaufman" on me either. This ain't that.

Wow, that's some character he was doing as part of his act. Not sure why people are angry at Richards though.

Come on this guy was obviously having a rough show. He did blow up when he shouldnt have. I dont understand why he or anyone would use that word, but also why would you go to a comedy club just to heckle. And I like how the heckler makes racial comments to Michael but nobody accuses him of being a racist. Plus, if this were some comedian who nobody has ever seen or heard of before, they wouldnt have made as big a deal about it. People just like to catch celebrities at there worst and create alot of commotion about them.

Also, he was saying how "this shocks you." Could it have been a sophisticated discussion of language and social mores?

Doesn't it strike anyone a bit that this whole thing happened just prior to the release of the season 7 DVD box set of Seinfeld. David Leterman's guest last night was Jerry Seinfeld. Rather than talk about his doings he graciously gave up his network interview time to discuss Richard's supposed meltdown. As Seinfeld's TV show has been off the air for a while a little publicity (good or bad) might put extra money in Seinfeld's and Richard's pockets.

Why are "all" African Americans taking offense to this. It's not like Michael said he hates all or any African Americans. Mel Gibson made a derogatory comment towards all Jewish people, and thats alot worse than this situation. And when he said "15 years ago I'd have a fork up your ass" he probably meant it as nothing to do with history and racism. It mostly likely meant that FIFTEEN not FIFTY years ago, during the height of his career with Seinfeld, he would be able to do anything he wanted. Still that comment was uncalled for, but I dont like how people are saying FIFTY years ago, and justifying that as a racist comment. And I suppose if he said that to a caucasian person, then it would just be comedy. Gimme a break
