    If you take away the comdic side of this, you really have a deep story. I mean think about it, desperation after apocolypse. That gas mask was his ticket to a long sufferable death. No one can live after everything else is dead, the mentioning of the 2 seconds magnify how the device on his face is more of a curse than a blessing.

    The sole survivor starves and suffers, and yet keeps going. And he doesn't try to find a safe haven...he simply digs. Long ago, survivors of the Black Plague sometimes spent the last of their strength burying their friends and family. I think that perhaps in a situation as illustrated in this film, a man who by pure luck and whim survived might make a similar choice.
