You want for Israel the peace of the grave, you unctuous, fatuous old fool. You are the worst President in U.S. History. Virtually every problem we face now can be traced to your incompetence.

Former President Jimmy Carter is the last of the truly great men in American politics. His compassion, intelligence and integrity belong to a bygone era. Americans have become an incredibly uninformed electorate with no sense of the political and religious history, affecting the quagmire known as the Middle East. Therefore, it is understandable why a man of Mr. Carter's stature would be so unfairly maligned. Has everyone forgotten that just four short years ago, Mr. Carter won the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize? He is also the only American president to have done so. As a registered Republican for many years, I find that I no longer recognize my own party because of its blatantly fascistic positions on everything from stem cell research to the Voting Rights Act to same-sex marriage to a woman's right to choose. This is no longer a party of which Abraham Lincoln would be proud. That is not to say that I have much more respect for the Democrats; however, they at least are not held hostage by the far-right religious zealots, who refer to themselves as Conservative Christians. Since I grew up with these people and know their agenda well, perhaps a better appellation would be Crank Right Churchgoers for I see very little Christian about them.

Billy Hank is a fool, as is the uninformed caller. Reagan did get the hostages released, however, he did it with amoral secret deals,(see iran-contra)Reagan was the one who armed Saddam Hussein, hell Rumsfeld personally gave the dictator a sword. Reagan blocked any UN criticism of the Kurd chemical weapon genocide. Reagan armed the Taliban during the anti Soviet insurgency, and Bush Sr. denied Afganistan funds after they won, creating chaos that the extremist used to rise to power. Learn about history

Former President Jimmy Carter can be blamed in part for the Middle East crisis we are in now. His policies as president helped put into power the radicals that are now running IRAN. This rewrite of history to make him a great President is a joke. Remember the pain index and gas lines of the 1970's? Remember 12% interest rates and unemployment at 10%? I still remember my Dad getting laid off! The thing I do not understand that most of the Jewish population in the United States is voting for his party and support their views. Mr. Carter is just speaking about the true beliefs of his party. Israel is to blame for all the problems in the Middle East. They will never truly support Israel.

Does anyone remember the Carter presidency? High Interest rates, Russian in Afghanistan, oil shortages to the point stations all over the US ran out of gas, and not to mention the loss of Iran to the radicals. I also would like to remind Carter that Israels utter defeat of Egypt lead to Egypt signing a peace accord with Israel, also it does not help that Egypt is the second largest receipent of foreign aid after Israel, and what has this gotten us? Carter is a failed President and his policies and his supporters dont understand the evil that faces free people around the world in the form of Islamic fascism.

The title should be "Carter confronted on C-SPAN". The former president handled it professionally, but as robert0331 stated President Carter was the most disasterous president in modern times and should not be traveling the world advising anyone on foreign policy.

The caller (and those who support him here) have very little knowledge of reality. First of all, Carter was President for four years. That's it. Sorry, what little he got to do, without CIA interference, was hardly enough for him to be taking the blame for all things rotten in America, 26 years later. Let's see: double-digit inflation! Do you Repugs think for one second that our economy is any better today? If you do, I pity you. Better watch your cash. Cozied up to dictators? Ummm... Reagan/Bush? I'll even give you Clinton, and Bush Jr. Lines at the gas station? Well, the oil companies decide the price of gas. And who runs the oil companies? Those that wanted Carter gone. I admire Carter for having the guts to tell Americans to ration. To sacrifice. Carter's legacy is that no President will EVER have the guts to tell us spoiled Americans we need to sacrifice one thing! Keep driving that Hummer! Afghanistan? Your argument isn't even right. You COULD argue that Carter (well, Brzinski, his advisor) started Al Qaida! You know, the Mujahadeen, funded by the CIA to run the Soviets out of Afghanistan? Oh, you didn't know about that. Well, you might want to look into it. Sure, blame Carter for that. He started it, and oh boy, did Reagan/Bush finish it. Iran? Ummm... Look into October Surprise. I know, I know, it was never proven. Neither were any of Clinton's crimes. That doesn't mean they didn't happen. Read Gary Sick's 'All Fall Down.' Or Google 'Bush October Surprise Paris Iran'. Lots to learn. Carter was the last honest President we had. And probably will ever have.

What Stylgian forgets is that Israeli's do not represent all Jews everywhere, and that Jews should not be punished just because Zionists are crying wolf. Christians have their right wing religious fanatics in the white house, The middle East is swarming with Islamic Fascist rulers, Israel has Zionists who are not acting in terms of a two state solution. Many Jews i know are in favor of such a thing. One cannot ignore, however, that Israel has been in a state of war ever since it's birth. They have no trust in their neighbors, and until the Palestinians can stop suicide bombing and kidnapping soldiers, Israel will never be able to have open entry. The hated "wall", which is only a wall for a small portion and is mostly a patrolled fence, has decreased suicide attacks by 80%! And if Palestine wants to be its own nation, it should still be held to the same entry regulations as any other country dealing with international travel. Wouldn't we impose the same regulations in the U.S. to mitigate illegal immigration? Most Israelis have Arab friends and want to live in peace with the Palestinians, why do we keep blaming the average people for the follies of their rulers? Shall the American people be blamed for Iraq? Really, before ones claims, "be very careful what you wish for, it might just happen,,again," remember at whom your threat should be steered, or perhaps you are like many who find easy scapegoats for your own hatred?

You guy's all need schooling. All of this is not going to go anywhere. You all are going in circles.
Some of you are correct though. Greenfisheye has good points, shootermagoo also. Thinkfirst is right.
Jimmy Carter should not be traveling the world advising anyone on foreign policy. He should continue building houses for the homeless and less fortunate. He is good at it.
You all should look into the history before Israel was allowed to move in. All the players did not do what they said they were going to do. Israel is supposed to be way bigger than it is. Politics gave away most of that land. And when they finally got the real estate. The Arabs told those people (Refugees) to leave so that the Arabs could make the Israelis leave. Then they could go back home. Then when these guys loose the war against this little country, they abandon those that they supposed to give back their homes. (Refugees). These people were tribal people. They are not Palestinians. They were all nomads. They all had tribal identities. In 1972 who was killed in the Olymipics? According to the AP. Palestinians.
Who were that people that the world called Palestinians? Not those Arab nomads. They all were Israelis. Tell a lie long enough and it is percieved as the truth.
America came into Hawaii on January 17, 1893 with big guns to back their American businessmen who overthrew our Queen Liliuokalani. For over 100 years we have been lied to. Hawaii is still a sovereign nation. Tell a lie long enough and people treat it as fact. Hawaii will be proven stolen and then we'll see the truth come out about how corrupt a lot of our leaders are.

I don't understand, is Jimmy Carter being called an "anti-Semite" because he feels for the Palestinians? If so, then that's childish name calling. (Without reading the book), I think the ex-president is just trying to say that Palestinians need to be looked at in a higher regard in order for peace to come about. He has a right to his opinion, one that I agree with. That doesn't make him (or me) an anti-Semite or racist. On a lighter note... yes, it does appear that Jimmy Carter is turning into Don Knotts! How about that? ^_^

Golly shucks. If is was not for Isreal he would have never received his Nobel Peace Prize. But it is all Isreals fault that they are getting rocketed? Why this person, who calls himself a Christian, can side with the Arabs is beyond me.

You cannot blame the Islamic Revolution in Iran on Jimmy Carter. That's ridiculous. Every U.S. administration supported the Shah. Anyway, Carters new book is bullshit.
