Description: Tehran ran this piece during the 80s, showing Saddam cowering under the overpowering attack from neighboring Iraq. (In reality, with support from the US, Iraq was significantly better equipped militarily than its neighbor.) The Iran-Iraq War, also called the First Persian Gulf War lasted from September 1980 to August 1988. It was commonly referred to as the (Persian) Gulf War until the Iraq-Kuwait conflict (1990-91), which became known as the Second Persian Gulf War and later simply the Persian Gulf War. (less)
