Anybody with a brain knows that the oncoming train is waiting at the junction for the other train to switch tracks!!

    Train go boom!

Why was this not all over the news?

The media are a bunch of morons who are more concerned with what Paris Hilton is doing than what is going on outside of Hollywood and the Government.

    Idiots!

Fake.... but good editing! should have cut in some interference with the crash sound effect to make it feel more real, instead of going to the blue screen automatically... Good job though!

The "oncoming" train, the one that is not videotaping, is stopped at the switch to wait for the moving train to take siding. The switch is clearly thrown for the siding and the moving train clearly takes the siding. The problem is that the stopped train is too close to the switch to allow for adequate clearance of the lead locomotive on the moving train. This is NOT a "head on" collision. The lead unit on the moving train severely cornered the lead unit on the stopped train. Any "passengers" bailing off the stopped train would be the headend crew as these are freight trains not passenger trains per se. Interesting that no radio chatter or screams of terror are heard from the moving train. Was the headend crew asleep? Locomotives have an earsplitting alarm that sounds every so often to keep the crew awake and must be turned off by the engineer every time it sounds or the train will come to a stop - was it bad order or disabled? What gives here?

now why would someone be taping this to start?

I never really found it fascinating to be taping a train moving while I am in it..

    it's a bunch of crap.

    puh lease.

Trains do have video surveilence, mainly for "CYA" purposes, to make sure that if there is an accident they have documentation that it wasn't thier fault. I've witnessed a train collision before and the sound is deafening. I sounds like a bomb blast followed my an earthquake. The inertia of the moving train alone would carry it on for at least 20-30 seconds.

The editor needed to use more realistic sound effects and like mjamie said, a little picture distortion would have helped the illusion. If there was an editing program that could make the screen shake, that would be helpful at the onset of the crash.

Next time, do a better job and you might get noticed!

Collision reported between 2 freights near Madera, CA

    Author: tomk

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Details are sketchy, but traffic is reportedly backed up on either side of an accident site near Madera, CA on the BNSF(?) where there apparently has been a head-on collision between two freights. No other info right now.

I don't know how you could say this was fake. You can clearly see the other train moving forward, as it comes closer to the junction. Considering how much weight a train has, it would probably roll for a lot longer than how much track was left on the video.

    Take a look at 0:45...

The stopped BNSF train has clearly overshot the stopping point at the switch, allowing the moving train to corner it. Not head-on, but def some twisted metal.

This isn't fake. We were shown the same video for our engineer training program for csx . If anyone out there knows anything about our signal system, the north bound train per say has a medium approach "red over yellow" at the south end of the siding. at :38 and :39 you can see this signal. It allows the north bound train to enter the siding at 30 mph. At :40 and :41 you see this signal drop to a stop indication. Red over red. The reason the signal dropped was that the south bound train didn't stop and entered the circuit. The signals worked as though they should, but the south bound train just didn't stop. Our instructors didn't know if anyone was killed.

I am both a visual effects artist AND a big-time railfan and train photographer. I can tell you, from a careful examination of that video, that it WAS NOT FAKED.

I do believe it was the Madera wreck. BNSF does operate in that area, both on their original trackage and on the old S.P. tracks sometimes.

I must state that this clip is a "fake" by virtue of the audio (not timed with video) and the video is too fast at the end. Also, there is no ou-take of the crash results. Clever, but not real.
