Nice vid to dedicate to the disaster, but why did they have to put a political statement in there? It wasn't the governments fault that local leadership didn't take control of the situation the way they should have. And the national guard did do a lot of relief effort with air support unlike this vid would have you believe that we abandoned the people in the city. Those that complain now, should have evacuated when they were told to do so.

How do you evacuate an entire city when the Gov gives you less than 24 hours? I think the point they were trying to make was that the Fed Gov could have reacted as quick in NewOrleans as they did in the far corners of the earth in the war on terror.

Unfortunately the fed govt cannot force itself into a state situation unless asked. The feds can't be blamed because help was not requested until 24 hrs prior. Local leaders failed to act--one just needs to revisit the picture of the hundreds of unused school buses sitting in the flood to see the lack of local leadership.

This video is what should have happened after Katrina. Really, the feds can't be blamed for their utter failure because some schmo didn't follow the right protocol for requesting aid? Or because some two-bit local leaders also failed with their stupid school buses, the failure of the most powerful man in the world is...not a problem? WHAT? Next, you'll be saying "no one could have anticipated the breach of the levees." Sorry, but we were all told that they had it in hand. No need to worry, just follow the plan. Yep, the same plan that called for the poor to "shelter in place" or head to the Superdome. Just get through the storm, and then the cavalry will be there, and the richest and most powerful nation on Earth will pull out all the stops and execute its magnificent plan to respond to this well-anticipated crisis. How seriously did our national leaders take the threat to a major American city? Well, during his last pre-storm briefing, the President asked no tough questions of his almost comically unqualified staff. Instead, he gave them a pep talk about how wonderfully prepared the nation was. And after the levees broke? Condi Rice was shoe shopping in New York City. Dick Cheney was off in another of his undisclosed locations. The President was on vacation. Well, that's not fair, the President did interrupt his vacation--to do a photo-op cutting birthday cake with John McCain in Arizona. Of course, days later he eventually showed up on the Gulf Coast to do some photo ops to improve his image, and to tell Brownie what a great job he was doing. And all the while, half of Louisiana, Mississippi, and the Gulf Coast's National Guard were off fighting Bush's hopeless failure of a war in Iraq. I'm sure hundreds more helicopters, more heavy equipment, thousands of additional trained rescuers wouldn't have made a difference. We are the richest, most powerful nation on Earth, but we responded to Katrina like we were a Third World
