    Ok seriously, how was this game a disappointment? It featured a vast city (which we had allready played) but it was a whole other city with nothing in common with the 3rd GTA other than there being 3 main islands. The graphics are better than any other free roaming game, and its gameplay on both behind the wheel and on foot were drastically improved. The story was nothing short of a Hollywood movie, but thats not why we buy it. Plus the Online features of this game are a single reason to pick this game up. Being able to run around the ENTIRE city with 15 other people was something i thought was impossible with todays technology but Rockstar pulled it off, maintaining the graphics. Sure there are some lag but thats just part of the online gaming life. I hope this one wins hands down GAME OF THE YEAR.

    Everybody has their own opinon to what their favorite game of the year is i want everybody to win this game of the year all of the nommines are worthy of being game of the year but thier only can be one if i had to choose what it would be a hard choice to make u cant really say one game is better then the other because their all good for different reasons

    no way grand theft auto iv should be in game of the year i thought it was a disapointment the shopping sucked and there wasnt no gangs in the game it wasnt that fun and i really didnt like the missions i didnt like the charecter you had to play and it was kinda too graphic they should of made a better one it would suck if it won gm of the year wasnt worth dying for

    so yall know, you cant vote for anything. the votes were made by the VGA Advisory Council, made up of a group of the most, well-respected experts in the industry. Games released between December 2, 2007 and December 1, 2008 were eligible for nomination.

    GTA 4 was the best 360 game to ever get and it even beats sales of the PS3. GTA 4 sold half a million in its first week, by far thats a real world record in my book.

    Well, until you have hooked up your game to an HDMI port and played a game on a Blu Ray disk in high def 1080p then i guess you would believe that 360 games are better than PS3 games. LOL.

    WTF Grand Theft Auto IV has a terrible soundtrack when your putting a game in the "best soundtrack" category please chose a game which HAS a soundtrack that everybody likes NOT JUST RAP AND SHITTY PUNK now about Grand Theft Auto Vice City THAT HAD A GOOD SOUNDTRACK by the way I'm not putting down GTA IV just it's soundtrack

    gta4 was a good game don't get me wrong but i think it was a little dull compared to the previous gta titles. all in all i would give gta4 a 8/10

    I agree with k man da killa 100% it was an amazing game but at the same time it was a disappointing, you cant just go from a game that had the best story line (vice city) to a game with the best map ever (san andreas) to a cramped little city with slower cars and less freedom...

    Out of all the games nominated for Game of the Year I have to give it to Grand Theft Auto 4. I played Fallout 3 and Gears until my eyes hurt however Grand Theft Auto 4 broke the roof apart with Rockstar's 2008 block buster! The story was amazing, the graphics are next t none and the playability is amazing.



    After many previous releases and similar game play, players found themselves deeply endulged in this amazing title that I feel deserves the win. Congrats to all the games in this class however I hope Grand Theft Auto 4 takes the trophy home.

    34343434343434343434 wins the award for quote of the year, that's for sure.

    Anyways, i'd like to say that GTA IV hopefully will win GOTY 08. It's an awesome game, and the people who don't think it's good just haven't played it enough. If everybody would have experienced the same side of Liberty City that i have online with my friends, you surely would choose GTA IV for Game Of The Year. Also adding in, the soundtrack might not have the best songs in a game, but for a change, the songs in GTA IV (and other GTA games) really fits in with the city, story and the feel to the whole game. That's why GTA IV in my opinion should also win the Best Sountrack category.

    A good game, much better than the previous one to me. Surprisingly I spent a lot of time on the game eventhough I was not a fan of the genre at all. The story, the mission, the characters (Brucie you're THE guy) kept me interested till the end. Too bad I won't have access to the new episodic content as a PS3 owner...

    Amazing game. I can see how much effort is put into it. This or MGS 4 either one should really win. I got the 360 version of the game it looks and runs great!

    this is such bs... this game suck..... fallout 3 , mgs4,and lbp were ten times better.... it was such a let down..... what crap... id say pay off.. this game didnt even win any other award wat a damn shame in video game award history...... please just kill me i wasted 62 bucks on this waste of code and plastic.. such a shame.. i wanna kno what it cost to pay people off for this award.........

    GTA4 was the crappiest game ever and it did not deserve game of the year at all, i played it and got rid of it the next day. Online player sucked and the storyline was not even interesting. Metal Gear should of won the award. Who knows what the heck they were thinking when they gave game of the years to GTA4

    So many ignorant "AMG GAME OF THE YR GAM OF TEH YR" opinions. GTA4 was great, and I enjoyed playing it, but there were a few things in the game that did not keep me interested. I cannot quite put my finger on what it is, but I could not sit down and play this game nearly as long as others.
    And to Brad, the VGAs are always about money. For god's sake, MGS4 beat Crysis: Warhead for best graphics.

    OK, if Game of the Year is down to sales this would be fair because it owned everything that came out, but on gameplay, this game is nothing, its not fun. The city is great, good size and everything but when it gets down to the core gameplay, this game shouldn't even be in the top 4. Throughout the whole story you don't feel linked to the character, if a main character died, I wouldn't even care. Its good for the first few missions but after you finish the first section, you realise you are doing the same thing over again. This is probably the worst 3D GTA despite the advanced graphics. Messing about and blowing up stuff just isn't fun anymore. No jetpacks, or aeroplanes took the buzz out of travel. Not being able to buy property kind of made earning money seless since all you can buy is guns. it was a disappointment

    did anyone else noticed that after the first few missions, the rest were all car chases!!! i sold the game after the first month mainly because this was the first GTA i felt like finishing, beat it in 4 days, and then concentrated on online, which was pointless. goofing around seemed a bit funner in the other ones, this one you felt you have done everything and there is no point to take the game out of the case anymore.

    This game for me was a disappointment because it was slow, didn¿t have a lot of customization, and got very boring, I have not beat the game. I won¿t sell it to GameStop because I would get $17, its repetitive and I would not play it a second time. I do admit it has a great concept but it was slow. 6/10

    This was a good game, but nothing this year comes close to fallout 3 i mean really. true GTA4 gave us yet another amazing city with vast amounts of freedom,, but Fallout gave us that as well only in a post apocalyptic setting, plus had graphics and physics engine that makes most games including GTA4 look like stick cartoons. Plus some of us enjoy actually having a say in the choices our character makes. I mean come on. i lost count how many times a really long drawn out mission would have been shortened drastically if i could control my character rather then have to watch him make stupid ass choices in bland repetitive cut scenes. Also i enjoyed the side features of the game like vigilante modes way more then the core story. True GTA4 had amazing open sails but that's because it's the 4th major title in the series and finally promised online multilayer which as previously noted is pointless. Fallout 3 went in a completely different direction then the games that preceded it and didn't have the huge pre established fan base.

    GTA IV is the greatest game of the year by far. I never played the other prequals and got my first exposure to the series with GTA IV. Since so many of you complained about how much better S.A. was I bought it, played it and... IT WAS A FRIGGIN JOKE by comparison... it looks fake, driving sucks and the game environment looks like a kids book at best. I'm sure these previous installments were great in their day, but for all of you pre-GTA IV bed wetters, YOU'RE LIVING IN THE PAST. If you can't hang in today's Libert City then go play Pac Man or something. Any game, like Fallout 3, that isn't online is simply digital masturbation... GTA IV is the template for furture FPS sandbox gaming.
