I'm not sure those were wolf spiders. I'm not sure because I wont get close enough to a spider, alive or dead, to ID it. Wolf spiders are jumping spiders, so I think that spider could have jumped out of the cooler at any time. Where do you live? I very impressed that you didn't just close the garage door and seal it off. Thats what I would have done. Nice job with the rescue!

Great. You dropped that spider off by a female with an egg sack, and no baby-daddy in sight. Now he's gonna have to take care of some other philandering spider's offspring!

Wolf spider's kind of a blanket term for any spider that hunts by pursuing prey, rather than with a web, just like a lot of large spiders are referred to as tarantulas. They don't jump up so much as along; their jumps are used for pouncing on prey, so it was probably stuck in the cooler. Wolf's are also solitary; don't expect a happy ending between the two (incidentally, it's hard to say but those could well have been young on the mothers back). Anyway, fun vid.

They are just creatures..leave them alone and they'll mate and move on.It's your phobia that's making you bother about them.

We call them wolf spiders here in the desert. They usually come out in mid spring and yes, they are huge, about the size of a tarantula, only more slender. If we get enough rain in the winter, we'll see dozens on our back patio every evening. They aren't very venomous, and our dogs will pick them up in their mouths and carry them around to play with. YUCK!

BTW, that second spider was definitely a female with LIVE young on her back. Don't stomp on her, or you'll have little spiders running everywhere, like, up your leg.

We also have millions of grasshoppers and crickets in the spring too, and they will happily suck up the juices of squished spiders.

    MMMmmm,..good!

Yep, certainly a wolf spider. They are quite uniquely identifiable by the eye position - bottom row is 4 small eyes in horizontal line, above that is two enlarged pairs one above the other. They have excellent eyesight (for a spider)
The females show care for young that's unusual in spiders - they carry the eggsac underneath the abdomen attached to silk spinnaretts then allow the hatchlings to crawl up and ride on top, exactly as the vid shows. The young also disperse by ballooning - unique for this type of crawly.
I know this as i hate spiders, but have a strange fascination about them! Plus i live in Australia - THE home of everything venemous!

you guys are aweseome because you don't have the need to kill inside you. you're not like the other sociopaths in the world. as significantly different than insects are to animals, still, this shows what you would do if a opossum or animal were in your garage/attic. you have feelings and compassion. if you reproduced and had children i wouldn't mind. myspace.com/snunchykins
