Going into this test I was unsure of who would win, but after seeing the scissor go through a slab of beef like that, I thought the gladiator would win it hands down. I was surprise to see that the scissor was not used in the simulation. Why is that?

I'm pretty sure no apache can take a full on hit from the cestus in the face like we saw in the simulation and continue fighting.

I actually have a request instead of a question. It would be really interesting if you guys pitted horror movie characters against each other for halloween. No one would want to meet jason or michael myers in a dark alley, but the question still remains, who is deadlier?

Just throwing it out there...both William Wallace and Shaka Zulu fought a common enemy, British Forces, and for a common purpose, liberation (though, in different time periods). I don't think the forged vs. non forged weapons will make much of a different in this one, even though it did in Shaolin Monk vs. Maori Warrior (but not in Apache vs. Gladiator). I think it will be closer than expected. Wallace is a more world-wide icon for the fight for freedom, and my favorite, but I do like rooting for the underdog, which sometimes is the victor. I will be slightly surprised, but not incredibly, if Zulu wins, but am expecting Wallace to claim victory.

this episode was full of shit! like this little indian can beat a gladiator like give me a break, and how it is that gladiator convenetly looses his shield and sword during a fight? and he punches the indian in the face probably smashing his nose in the process and the gladiator stands back to cheer and think " hmmm i'm going to give the indian a chance to get up!" so far this show is full of so many inaccurate depictions it makes me laugh.

There is no way the Apache is going to beat the Gladiator. To bad you have to yield to political correctness and favor the native American.

In the episode the apache vs gladiator the Gladiator should have won because the Gladiator would not have stopped punching the apache face until the opponent stipped moving. But in the reanacment he stopped leaiving the apache to move

The final battle seemed one-sided. The Gladiator was put in the Apaches natural setting. Not to take away from the Apache because they are obviously deadly. What would happen if they were in the coliseum? I don't think aerial weapons would apply. It would be hand-to-hand combat. I could be wrong, but that was my impression. Anyway, I do like the show...

I find it funny how everyone is complaining about how rigged the final fight was. If you guys actually paid close attention to the last few minutes of the episode and during the episode you would understand why the apache won in the end. After simulating ONE THOUSAND battles, not just ONE, the computer program determined who was the deadliest fighter. Geez come on people, do you really think they would base their conclusion on just on fight? Actually WATCH the show first before you complain like little girls you Gladiator fanboys.

Since when do Apaches have metal skulls? That metal fisted wouldve knocked that Apache out or even killed him when he punched him once in the throat and again in the face. (Not to mention he wasn't even bleeding. Didnt those things have spikes on them?) And then instead of keeping punching his face he gets up and takes a breather and lets the Apachi kill him. WTF?
By the way Gladiators used bows too called Arcus.

I disagree with the Apache being the deadliest knife fighter in history. The knife-fighting arts and their practitioners Southeast Asia prove that.

Again, this is "Deadliest Warrior" 's first show - its off to a good start. I was there during filming and made the Roman Cestus'. www.myspace.com/knightscrossleatherworks.com. Not EVERTHING will be 100% accurate, and your never going to make EVERYBODY happy. It's a show, not perfect but a damn good one! BTW my money was on the Gladiator!

I love the show, it reminds me of an older version where there would be two animals like a lion and a tiger would fight. However, some facts about the gladiator were not correct. Does anyone know what program they use for this and where to get it?

When I started to watch this first episode, I was slightly disappointed because I was hoping for a showdown between a European fighter and an Asian fighter. However, as the show progressed, I realized that the selection of combatants was a great choice!
That said, I was mildly irritated that the show made it seem like gladiators specialized in all of those weapons. In most cases a gladiator was proficient with only one or two combat scenarios/weapons, mainly depending on their ethnicity. Also, only gladiators that were already good at fighting were actually trained.
Additionally, I believe that the recreation of the roman arena showed the editor (judge) turn his thumb down to kill the loser...I am fairly certain that this is incorrect. Thumbs down meant what would roughly be translated into English as "weapons down." Some historians argue that it might have meant "mercy".
Finally, the simulation was awesome, but I doubt that the Apache warrior would have waited half a second when the gladiator caught his trident in the tree branches. I also doubt that the gladiator would have waited so long to stab the when the Apache was tripped by the net, since there was no audience to please.
All-in-all, this is totally an awesome show. I love it - one of my favorites!

Snake Blocker may be Apache Indian but he is not a contracted military instructor. Teaching some of your buddies in the Navy doesn't make you a Government contracted employee. The art style he is teaching is not one of Apache tradition, it is Kali.

I really liked was excited to watch the show, but I am horribly concerned with your data, and outcome. I am a historian and found that most of your information given in your show was inaccurate and judgmental for your own views. The possible outcomes of your computer simulation are embarrassing. You should declare a valid point that these are your findings and not based upon actual scientific accounts or historic documents and cultures! This is strictly pure entertainment, and has no basis of actuality! I'm sorry, but you guys are a big JOKE!

the Apache Indian is not given its due... although having won the combat, i feel you forgot to mention that the gladiators didnt survive as long as the Apache's have, and to this day they still practice their art of combat. U gave the edge to the gladiators when it was apparent the were claiming two weapons to one of the Apache. I also felt that bringing in machinery to work the sling for the gladiator was not a comparison to the real throw that may or may not make its target. Were as the arrow was proven to b accurate every single shot by an actual person. I would have found it more interesting if it had been more of the same style of combatants.. i knew that the Apache would win the fight from the beginning because they are still here to prove that they are strong, swift and their tools have stood centuries longer than any gladiator. I think those gladiator specialist need to apologize for their egos, and admit that the Apache Indians are bad a**!
