It's amazing what cameron did with the budget restraints its one of my favourite films. I hadn't
picked up on the slasher comparison before.
I've reviewed the film as well in a parody form I'd really like to know what people think

The scene where Arnold takes out a defected eye in front of a bathroom mirror was absolutely horrifying! Even as child growing up with seeing that, all I can say is that there is a reason the "rated R" feature was invented!
It is a pretty darn good movie though. T2 was better, but T1 deserves a look.

I couldn't agree with you more, seeing this movie for the first time is just awe inspiring and leaves you with the sense of satisfaction. The first film set the bar and the 2nd took the bar to a level that a handful of movies could ever reach. That's one of the reasons I don't like terminator 3 it lowered the bar, it's an okay movie, but what chance did it have? Did anyone expect T3 to reach the bar that T2 had set? I didn't

Boy am I not looking forward to the review of T-2.
I often find that James' views meet my own (the review of the new Batman films was spot on)...but to think T-2 is in any way "better" than T-1 is just wrong.
Now I like T-2...but it's just a popcorn flick. Making out T-2 is better then T-1 is like saying Aliens is better then Alien. This is what Cameron is good at, messing up a franchise with a lesser sequel. No story, no emotion, just big guns, bigger effects and cheesey lines.
I mean, how can taking the most terrifying bad "guy" in cinema history and turning it into a 10 year old's play thing be in any way good?
How did the T-800 go from..."It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead."
To...a TERMINATOR that does not kill and says things like Hasta La Vista...Baby!
All the fear, tension and suspense of T-1 was replaced with impressive (for the time) CG and terrible writingin T-2.
Where as T-1 is a stoke of cinematic genuis...T-2 is a standard summer blockbuster with no charm.
Nice review of T-1 though. Good call on the horror angle. I myself have always seen T-1 as a horror film. But it was a horror film with class and imagination.

maybe I'm gonna sound like every nerd who's had his favorite game/movie/board game reviewed by James ... but I feel like less than 3 minutes spent discussing one of the best movies of all time is not enough! The first Terminator was landmark for so many reasons! It was the first neo-noir sci-fi film that I can recall, after Blade Runner (which was too much a throwback to post-war crime movies to be considered "neo"). It was probably the only film (barring Alien) that depicted a self reliant, female protagonist, and it was definitely one of the first major successes of guerrilla film making to come out of the Roger Corman camp (that was not actually produced by Roger Corman)! The first Terminator review deserves as much time as the 3-part Ghostbusters review, in my opinion (but that's just my opinion) Still, it's great that James took the time and takes the time to give his insight into any of the films/games/board games he reviews. Kudos man!

T2 is one of the few sequels that overdoes the original one. Though I might just be saying that for I saw T2 dozens of times before I saw the first one.
I'm kind of curious though, did James stop giving ratings to the films he reviews?

Have to agree with everything you say. Masterpiece of a film, properly scary in places, intellectual, bleak, completely outdone by its secret
T2 is definitelty my favourite film ever, I've been watching it since I was about 2 years old and I have a "NO FATE" tatoo. I've never agreed with a James Rolfe review more!

Ah! The Terminator. Definitely one of the best movies ever made by one of the best directors who ever lived.
I don't really agree about the action scenes being tame. I would say the current generation of action movies is too hyperkinetic for a human brain to take in. This movie got em just right. The scene in wich the terminator drives his bike trough pipe bomb explosions without slowing down is one of the most intense ever and it doesn't have any cgi at all. The stopmotion sequences look a bit dated even tough they still work.
They say they want to make the new movie darker and grittyer. But when you look at the original it's hard to look for something NOT dark and gritty. So what the hell...
Finally, a detail noticed: This movie has a love making scene that is actually relevant to the story. Any other movie puts in a skinemax moment just for showing off the female leads curves. In this movie, the romance seems almost forced by a higher power i can't really put the finger on. Like it was inevitable. Strange how whenever timetravel gets involved, people seem to have little control over their fates.
