    I've been vexed by this song since I was 17, possessed by it and vexed. I figured it out tonight! I could never understand what the title "big log" meant till I watched the video just now

    The car is his penis. Overheated on the road. His love, in league with the road, is his fidelity. Every single lyrics website gets it wrong. It's not "should I rest for a while, on the side", it is, "should I rest for a while and decide". He's tempted. his big, overheated, loving log. Yay!

Description: There are big rock stars, and then there are BIG rock stars. Robert Plant is humongous, and this post-Zep solo effort was a huge hit back in the day. In the vid, Plant's classic car overheats at a desolate desert gas station, which causes him to muse upon lost love. Or hoses that can't handle the pressure. Or something. Anyhoo, it looks and sounds cool. (BTW, there's nothing in this video about logs of massive size, except the title.) (less)
