Do not miss this. A great look inside the leftist looney bin, I can't imagine a person having a lower opinion of African-Americans than he does.
He doesn't believe they can pull themselves up, he believes they will always need help, and anyone who makes it on their own, unapologetically, (Condi Rice, Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell) is somehow a traitor for being capable.
It is fortunate that right now the left is emboldened enough to occasionally speak the unvarnished truth of their beliefs. Behold and beware.

What a dumbass. He has one hit song and thinks that makes him an authority on politics. He's jealous that Condi Rice is so brilliant and so influential in the world. She's respected for her abilities - not because of her race. Belafonte doesn't have anyone's respect except Castro and Chavez - and what a couple of winners they are! If only we could revoke citizenship - Belafonte would be on the first boat back to Africa where he could try to earn a living or have a voice. He'd be a nobody.

Amazingly great interview! The interviewer was very good asking some REAL questions, like is not saying Bush is the worse tyrant a fair comment? As far as Bellefonte's comment that Rice's views are not those of the american blacks views, I would as a white american agree, american blacks as a whole are hopeless and a big disapointmoint. Lets go to the true black model, Africa, I say lets go there, lets do it man! Give me a break you fool, leading your own race to nothing but shame!

Harry is a product of his generation. Much of his success (such that it is) in his day was due to his light skin. This is a dirty little secret in the black community. Back in the day dark skinned African Americans weren't just discriminated against by whites but also by some in the African American community as well. I've heard Belafonte sing on old recordings and I don't get it. It's no coincidence that a lot of the African Americans who are conservative today are dark skinned. If you think I¿m wrong look up some of their writings (Thomas Sowell). They aren't just revolting against liberalism but the light skinned elite (tan/yellow) African Americans who wouldn't let them into certain establishments back in the day if they were darker than a paper bag. True story. Check it out. Colin Powell isn't dark but he has another problem. He¿s the son of Jamaican immigrants. Many blacks arrive here from other countries and do well. This of course flies in the face of rampant American racism. If these black people can come here and succeed in the system it invariably invites comparisons and questions. How do these non native English (some) speakers come here and do well in a racist system? Why can't native born Blacks succeed as well? The answer to the last question is simple. African Americans are doing well. This fact is overlooked (conveniently) by people who for years have made a career being "Black leaders" or in the case of liberal whites ¿Advocates¿. These ¿leaders¿/ ¿advocates¿ and their progeny do well financially (Jesse Jackson). They identify a ¿problem¿, (i.e., racism) in a minority community, start a group and/or foundation, get government funding, set themselves up as the ¿leader¿ and pay themselves a nice salary. This is good ole Yankee capitalism/entrepreneurship at its best. Is there racism? Yes, definitely. Is it as bad as it was in say the forties and fifties? No it isn¿t and to compare 2007 America to that era is an insult to the A

African Americans who not only lived through it but survived and prospered. The real problem facing the black underclass is culture. Consider the human brain a computer (which it is) and culture the software. Fact, some programs are better than others. This software (culture) is permeated by violence, drugs and illegitimacy, etc. The black underclass is encouraged to feel like victims (and helpless children) and to look past the comfortable lifestyle of these self appointed leaders and only concentrate on ¿whitey¿. The black underclass is preyed on not just by the system; (which in my opinion requires an underclass to function ethnic makeup up irrelevant); but also by these self appointed leaders/advocates. Black conservatives constantly point this out. This is why they are subjected to such vitriol. They threaten the lively hood of the black elite and the liberal whites who often make their living off the ¿under served¿ black underclass. In some areas of the country the whites/blacks who once sold overpriced goods and shoddy services to poor blacks have been replaced by other ethnic groups. Some of these newcomers are themselves black. Rice, Powell and Thomas worked for their positions and are role models for many young African Americans. These ancients are held in contempt by some younger African Americans. This generation doesn¿t tremble in the face of the system. The rappers (whether you agree with their methods or not) are entrepreneurs. Jay-Z, Russell Simmons and P Diddy are worth millions of non government supplied dollars. This generation looks to them as role models to the chagrin of the ancients. Some young African Americans are embarrassed by these old timers and resentful of the constant begging and being made to look and feel stupid, helpless and outfoxed by ¿whitey¿ at every turn. In a perfect world the black underclass would wake up one morning out of its drug induce, welfare supported stupor and DEMAND better schools, personal respon

Yo PMN245 I think you could probably comment in a little more sensitive way and with less generalization.
I personally don't think African-Americans have anyone to be grateful for for being in America. They were born here by no fault of their own, they can be happy about it but grateful? To whom?
And the nice thing about their standard of living here, is that it's self-made. So many make the case every day that they are as capable or more so than anyone. So when they do do well, they can be grateful to themselves.
That's what if anything, people should take away from free or mostly free places like the US, or Hong Kong, Estonia, places like that. It's not that people in the developing world are less capable than we are, it's that they are living in a wretched tyrannical or socialist system. Given freedom and property rights, the entire world can prosper.
Belafonte should truly try out Cuba, although for the few at the top I imagine it's pretty sweet. Cuban girls + absolute power = my sick fantasy. But for the vast majority it blows down there.
PS F U Belafonte.

The truly bewildering thing is that there are people still willing to put to question anything he has to say. The interviewers of Belafonte know damn well what a hateful bigot he is. So, why do they still interview him? Why don't they go ask O.J. how the hunt for his wife's killer is going?

Let's take a look at "Mister Blackness". He first signed with Jubilee Records which at the time was a Yiddish comedy label. He had one hit and then signed with RCA (a huge black label), then went on to record two albums at Carnegie Hall (it's just the Cotton Club with better acoustics). His work in Hollywood was done with black film legends such as Joan Fontaine, Otto Preminger, Robert Wise, Robert Ryan, Robert Altman, Emilio Estevez and that Godfather of Cinematophotgraphic Soul John Travolta. His high points in television were with the Smothers Brothers and the "British Aretha Franklin", Petula Clark. His two marriages were to Marguerite Mazique and Julie Robinson Belafonte, two "sistas from the hood".
Ok,enough... Do we really need this hypocrite to tell us who is and isn't "black" enough? After this man's career he has the audacity to call someone else a "house slave"? There has been no bigger "house slave" that I can think of than Harry Belafonte.

Mr.Belafonte needs to be told how to be an American and stop being a self-loathing Black man who holds dearly to his victimization.
He perpetuates more racism than other people in the U.S. who probably are racist.
Condi Rice and Colin Powell, as examples, have done more as role models in our Nation and Global image as to what Black people can achieve than any Hollywood entertainer could ever hope to be or portray.

I believe most of the left believes this tripe, white and black. They simply won't say it like Harry. That is why they want us to lose in Iraq. Hooray for Harry Belafonte and freedom of speech. He says exactly what I am thinking but if because I am "white" I would be tagged as a racist. Truth is Truth.. Black and White should mean Right or Wrong, and not a color.
When is America going to wake up and see that color is of no importance. We all bleed red blood. As long as the media makes it a problem it will never be solved. And you wonder why we have wars.
Now, George Bush, who is the most ignorant, pigheaded person ever, who had NEVER even travelled out of this country before he was President and travelled on your dime and mine, only picked Condi to make himself "look like he was not color blind". Many and most of us don¿t think color is important, it's people like you and Mr. Belafonte who keep the issue going, just like Jackson, Rangel, and all the rest. Clearly you all have an investment in holding onto your victimization self-loathing stance you possess, most likely because somehow you are being rewarded for it either through attention paid or dollars in your pocket.
Racism now is nothing more than political ammunition for those that refuse to accept personal responsibility for their choices in life. Bill Cosby and Juan Williams are correct, a great majority of Blacks have squandered the great collateral given from which to overcome racism by the Brown vs. The Board decision.
