Description: This is a restoration from an old piece of 8mm film that had no sound. I managed to recut, recolor and resync it fairly well. This is the Grande Pas De Deux from Nutcracker performed by Prima Ballerina Janet Combs with Premier Danseur Jemil (Jim) Akman. Restaged in 1977 by Miguel Terekhov and Yvonne Chouteau, this is derived from the original Ballet Russe De Monte Carlo Choreography. They both toured with the original Ballet Russe and Miss Chouteau (Terekhov's wife) was one of the five famous Indian ballerinas. Janet Combs now runs the Shawnee Academy in Oklahoma where she trains and shapes young dancers toward their future while Mr. Akman went on to perform on Broadway and later in films. He worked with Gene Kelly, the Joffrey Ballet and was an invited guest artist at the International Festival in Europe while he still was dancing. Later, he was a stunt player and then a actor before turning to production in Los Angeles for film and other projects. (less)
