When I was in collage and in class, I turned off my cell phone so I wouldn’t disturb the class. Obviously, this cell phone student didn’t care. Bravo to this Professor!

I stand in support of the professor. So many people are so rude anymore. Step out of class if it's a call that you can't miss.

Regardless of the disruption of the class, it's still no excuse for the destruction of someone's private property.

My time on this planet is worth MORE than anybody's private property. How did we become an "ONLY I" society. The caller AND the phone owner are clueless and could care less about respecting (even recognizing) the intrests and focus of others around them. Good for the Prof.

An "ONLY I" society is one in which a person destroys someone else's property because he or she is angry. It was rude of the student to let their phone ring in class, let alone to answer the call, but it was also totally inappropriate for the professor to act that way. ... Telling the student to STFU or throwing them out of class would, however, have been okay. ;)

As a teacher, my take on this fellow is that he had every right to be upset, and to take the phone (as long as fair warning had been given); but not only was he over the line smashing it, more importantly he just LOST the attention of the class. Now, all they are thinking is probably exactly what this stream of comments says, NOT about whatever he is teaching them. POOR DISCIPLINE METHOD.

Professor Chaos in effect. How many dumbfucks are out there that don't know any better to turn the phone off or put it to silent when you're in a meeting, in class OR WHEN DRIVING. It only shows the ignorance and lack of BASIC manners of people today. If your saying "oh, that's rude? I didn't know" right now. Well done. You've learned something today. Keep it up.

The proper response for the teacher would be to get on the phone, tell the other party that "this person will be able to call you back in about five minutes, that's the amount of time it will take to expell him from my class", turn to the student and say "See you next term, maybe!" Poetry!

I'd have to guess that this wasnt the first time this has happened in his class, sure there are other ways to handle the situation, but after it's happened more than once, you'd get a little frustrated.

I would guess that the student had been warned multiple times. The professor probably said: "Next time, I'll smash your phone."
And he did.

If I were the student, I would have stood up and said, "Are you going to apologize and open your wallet right now and pay for the property you just destroyed in front of all these witnesses, or do I have to bring a couple of police officers here in 10 minutes to help you do that? Take your time; you have 5 seconds to answer me!" Then I would have waited exactly 5 minutes, and walked out saying, "See you soon, as soon as I can call the police from a phone that works, and if the police are busy, we'll achieve justice another way soon."
Professors have the highest role-model responsibility to model controlled, moderate, and legal behavior to their students, not just teach information and arrogantly bash any interruptions.
There are many better things the professor could have done, including giving a warning, or at least gently placing the cell phone on the floor outside the door, and pointing to student out the door too.
Seeing a couple of cops walk in and cuff or cite the arrogant rude professor for malicious mischief would be a great lesson for him and the students.

Mr. Winwin is ridiculous. Handling the situation as he suggests is every bit as impetuous as the professor handled it. Should the student go to the police? Yes, but should he do it in a way that makes him look like a child and makes his professor and his entire class utterly despise him? Anyway, that was hilarious, even if it was professionally a very stupid move.

You know, he didn't even get mad when the phone rang, he knew accidents happen. It's when the kid tried to talk on the phone quietly instead of listen (idiotic and completely rude to the prof and the entire class) that he reacted. GO PROFESSOR!!!! ...and then he goes on with the lecture like nothing happened.

#1, it's against the law for "Willful Destruction of property",#2,That would have resulted in an Instant asswhipping of the professor and a taking of his wallet to replace what was destroyed. He should have told the student to take it OUTSIDE, NOT break/destroy personel property. His actions are a violation of campus Rules and Regulations, Staff are not to become involved with the students and students properties. If a problem arises that cannot be handled in a proffessional matter, then Campus Security is to summond. I agree that the student was in the wrong by answering the phone, it should have been shut off Before he entered the classroom, but the Pro(?)fessor should have been the adult here and either had the student turn off the phone, take it and return it after class, told the student to leave the classroom or called security, not be a "Bitch" and throw a temper tantrum and take and break the students phone.
As I said in the begining, this action would have resulted in my whipping the shit out of that bitchfetcher and the taking of any and ALL Monies he had to replace my cell

Obviously filming your lecture is not the case, what is the use in that? I want to say it was staged, but none the less, that was brilliant.
