Blobfest was AMAZING! I saw myself very briefly running out of the theatre. I'm so glad I went and got to see you =)
Remakes can be good, as long as they don't try too hard to surpass the original. When remakes know their place, they're at least entertaining.

I don't think it was technically a remake but The Faculty has alot of the same ideas as Body Snatchers and one of the characters even mentions it as a sort of explanation to whats going on during the movie.

Not sure if the 2005 tv series "Invasion" , could be classed as a movie. Only lasted one season.
But it sure stayed true to the "somethings not quite right in this little town"-premise. I had to watch it via the dvd box set, and enjoyed all the creepiness.
But a huge Thankyou to James, i really enjoy your reviews of all the old time classics sci fi stuff.

DAMN, why does is the fracken commercial so loud!!!
Anyway, great as aways. I think you could have discussed the Body Snatcher movies much more.
In the end, my favorite remake is John Carpenter's The Thing. It's more faithful to the short story and honestly, I WAY prefere it to the Howard Hawks film. Sorry, I hate the Howard Hawks Thing.
1978/Donald Sutherland's version is my favorite version of the Body Snatcher movies.

Great tribute, but one important thing was omitted! The director for Son of Blob/Beware the Blob was none other than Dallas star Larry Hagman! That's just weird, and it's also why, when it got released on video in the 80s, it got the tagline "The Movie J.R. Shot!" Also, one of the writers of the remake was Frank Darabont, who just four years later, made the Shawshank Redemption! That's pretty cool actually!
Good final thoughts about the nature of remakes, and I'd agree, it's like I said on another forum, at least one good thing came out of the new "Day the Earth Stood Still", a new special edition Blu-Ray of the original (YAY!)!

It's true :O
I just can't watch black'n'white films. I try, I really do, but I just can't get involved. It's not something I do on purpose, it's a curse of being born during the CG era.

I was in Phoenixville, Pa about 2.5 years ago to see a singer (Missy Higgins--she's big in Australia). I saw her at The Colonial. The town is definitely a tiny place with nothing going on. They had a lot of stuff about Blobfest all around the place. It's obviously their big yearly event. It was cool to see your the interviews and stuff from around town and recognizing buildings from when I was there.
BTW, The Colonial has AMAZING accoustics. I was really impressed by that.

Excellent set there james. I like the fact that you mentioned the war of the worlds tv series in the last video. Unfortunatly I haven't seen the original blob only the 80's version. Gonna look the original up. Noticed the Deadly mantis in there along with some left over this island earth music.

James, for The Invasion of the Body Snatchers you forgot the movie "The Faculty" where they were obviously blatant in ripping off the other films in order to get their premise (I have a feeling that the film pitch was the same). It was campy, sometimes stupid (e.g. like when the Goth girl changes to "normal" at the end, even though her former football playing boyfriend liked her for the way she is when they fell in love), but a fun film. I wish you mentioned it.

James,
Every other day I come onto your website to see what videos you have uploaded. I must say, AGVN was the way I became interested years ago and have shared it with others. Some of your videos I have on my ipod and show them to people in reference to the subject matter. Lately, you have really stemmed off of the video game critic and have presented videos of your research and passion for movie value. I have watched all of your videos, the commentaries, the movies, the Bull shits and so forth and I must say, you have impressed the hell out of me with your knowledge and info that you have reserached and presented with not only a biased view but open remarks. I have written you in the past and again wanted to thank you and let you know that I appreciate and support your work. It's definatly different and great. Keep it up. I do presentations as part of my research in my doctorate program and use clips from various videos at universities and so forth, I have yet to use any of yours but I have heard people relate my video stylings to yours. In which case, I did mold my presenations after yours and do credit you as one fo the many inspirations. Keep it up and I will devote more of my time to tune into your videos. Are all fo them found on youtube? If you don't respond again, please at least let me know that much.
Harvey

Man. I love the Blob... I mean who couldnt? Just look at it, all bloobery gooie! with a mass-murderer agenda! Dont you just want to hug it? ...and get disolve in it *ahem*
So yeah I remember the 80s Blob to me back then was the original and many friends still think of it as the original. It wasnt till a couple of months that they passed the real origfnal one on TV. I must admit I kinda liked it, was funny and the blob being so bouncy at first lol was awsome, but it lacked what I like the disolving of the victims, =\ of course thats just me I like to see gore in gorey films which I consider the blob to be one.
AWSOME REVIEW!!!
...and also a famous quote "NOTHING CAN STOP THE BLOB!!!"
if you dont know it or know where its from then its a shame,

Ah. Another hot, stinky, messy serving of biased shit right from Grandpa Rolfe's depends diaper! Please, stop being so biased to original movies. Would it pain you to admit that there are some movies that are better than the 50s original? You really sound dated and boring sometimes.

Perfect example of my point. You talk about the Blob movie as if you're reminiscing of the 50s, as if you lived during that time..."the cars, the clothes, it was so charming back in my day." Ugh. It's painful to watch James. Most of the original movies you mention are not at all memorable and it's as if you're trying to convince yourself that they were good. It's ok to say that these movies (most of the originals anyway) are crap. You know that at least the original Blob was so stupid. Just admit it. Try it, you'll feel better and may actually be able to make a fair review.

The people complaining about remakes of the Blob are stuck in the past. Also, those effects in the 80s Blob looked pretty damned good.

I think that hatero and all the other people that think that James is wrong for liking the originals more than the remakes, or think he sounds dated, should think about this... Imagine if there was a remake of the Terminator, or Raiders of the lost ark? Or if some bullshit director in 20 years time decides to remake the star wars saga? How shit would that be? IT WOULD SUCK BALLS! And I would never accept them as better than the originals. Yeah so alot of the effects look shit in some of the old films but so what, why should that take away from a film, just like good graphics don't make a good game, good special effects don't make a good movie, as has been proved all to often. Besides most CG looks fake as hell anyway and in a couple decades we'll look back at it and it will look just as shit as some of those 50s films. Also regardless of how you feel about the originals the simple fact is that without them the newer versions wouldn't exist. You may think James is stuck in the past but I think you are stuck in the present. You probably think that todays music is the best ever recorded or that the cars of today are better than the cars of the 60s and 70s, well I strongly disagree and if that means I'm an old fart then thats what I am, and proud of it.
