Love the sub machine gun tests, the mafia gets an open floor restaurant where the yakuza gets a market place where the targets are covered by fruit stands. In season 2 you should do the cia versus the sas, and in that bout have a suppressed pistol test where u fire the cia's gun at 3 feet and the sas from over 300 yards. Does that seem logical? Nope it does not, neither does your testing. Inaccurate testing leads to inaccurate results leads to a inaccurate show. nuff said

Hey Max Geiger, I was wondering, how come in the simulation, one of the Yakuza guys falls to the ground/dies three times? The first time is when the Yakuza boss grabs a hostage, you see the Yakuza guy fall down behind the Yakuza boss. The second time he falls is when the Yakuza boss is shooting down while holding the hostage. The third and final time the Yakuza guy falls (or dies apparently) is when one of the Mafia guys shoots and kills the hostage that the Yakuza boss was holding. During all three times, the Yakuza guy falls (dead) behind the Yakuza boss. Why is that so? How does he fall to the floor or die three times? Is it a glitch or a mistake or just something you didn't notice in the simulation?

I still don't think the yakuza martial arts training was taken enough into a account during the simulation. Seriously I doubt some street fighting mafia thug can really take down a trained martial artist in hand to hand. The guns I understand but that was just absurd.

I hope the Yakuza does come back. They are certainly a formidable force. I'd like to see them tangle with some Pinkerton Detectives. The Pinks used Pistols-Shotguns-Rifles and Knives. Probably not enough firepower to beak the Yakuza, but you can't discount their tracking ability. They'd likely be able to get the jump on the Yakuza and at least make it a close fight.

Wow, this one surprised me. I thought given the twenty year advance in technology, the Yakuza would have won, even though I was rooting for the Mafia. The testing did convince me. The Tommy Gun was MUCH better than I thought. Powerful-Quick-Accurate. Of course a shotgun beats a pistol, that match up even I knew. I was surprised that the bat beat the chucks, until I asked my son (Jiu Jitsu Black Belt). He said he'd rather use a bat as awesome as the chucks are. I can see not using the Katana in the testing as it is not street legal like the bat nor can it be concealed like the chucks. Of course, the Mafia could have replaced the bat with the palm pistol and probably generated even more kills. Great episode and aftermath---Can't wait for season two!

I understand why the Yak didn't use the katana it is long and hard to hide. I know that it is an un-common weapon for the yakuza, but what about the wakizashi. Its shorter then the katana with a blade length from around 12''-24" meaning it can be hidden under normal street cloths, and was the indoor version of the katana. Also it is now a common weapon for the modern yakuza since the ownership of fire arms in Japan are strictly band and carries severe punishment. Only gun that a Japanese citizen can posses is a shot gun and getting a license is. The control of swords is just as strict, but then a sword fight does not attract half as much attention as a gun fight.

Now guys, I agree 100% the Yakuza should've won, but heres why they lost its really quite simple. The Mafias Tommy Gun had 499 kills, leaving only 2 kills left to give them the win. Even if they had used a Katana believe me it wouldn't have made a difference, Now if they had subtracted the use of the SMG it would be a more realistic fight, and matching the true message of "Dirty Street Fighting vs Trained Precision" they wanted to get across.

Somehow I knew the Mafia was gonna beat the Yakuza cuz yes the yakuza Knows Martial arts and they have Honor and their times that they would fight fair but not the Mafias when a Mafia is in a Fight they not gonna fight fare they gonna do whatever thhey can to win even if it mean that they have to fight dirty, the Mafia will show no mercy, and the Mafia can be very slick and tricky.

With all respect to the mafia I feel the japanese should ve won because in stead for the nuncucku they should have used the samuari sword as a short range weapon .I think that what would have been the difference in the simulation short range weapon. Number Two in real fight the ice pick beating the sai is not likely to happen. Why didnt the japanese use the sword please explain.

Why do they use different dummies to test the weapons? I just watched the Yakuza vs Mafia - they use the paper for the hand gun (Yakuza) and then the dummy for the shot gun. Then they use the gelatin/bone dummy for the ice pick, and then the foam dummy for the sai... I think they should be a bit more consistent with the testing. If I had seen them do the ice pick and the sai in the same kind of dummy I would be able to have a better visual comparison of destruction. However, I guess using different dummies can also test different things like force etc and makes it more interesting... just less visually comparable to me. GOOD SHOW! I like seeing which warrior would win in a fight you always wondered about.

Fights do not go down like how this show displays them. and in the knight vs pirate, he the knight didn't even use the halberd. the show is purely for entertainment and puts out what we want to see.

All right. Awesome show. There is one problem. On the computer simulations, you test 1000 battles, which is a good idea. The thing you don't do is measure accuracy, power, force, perception, ect. This kind of stuff changes with every warrior. You only measure one or two people's power and stuff. And guns may misfire. That means in any fight with a gun, the results may change in real life. You shouldn't use guns. This goes for all the shows you do.Besides Apachi,Gladiator,Samuri,Viking,Ninja,Spartan,Pirate,Knight,Mafia,Yakuza,Green Beret,Shaolin Monk,Maori,Taliban, and IRA, you should do Eskimos, Navy, Crazy Horse, Hung-Wu, Natzis, and Moctezuma. And Hannibal.

"The Yakuza has been around for centuries, when it comes to experience, the Mafia is still in diapers."
Where is this coming from? The mafia has been around longer than you think. They may not have always been called that, but thespirit was always in Sicily.

This is a very interesting conversation about the Mafia and Yakuza. I have seen documentaries and movies about the Mafia and have learned that there is a "Don" or "Boss" in the crime family. I noticed that these two characters "Don" "Boss" were not mentioned. I would like to know if the bosses would have influenced in this match up. Would the outcome have been any different? I am just curious. I respect both organizations, but I think the Mafia is the deadliest warrior. I say this because our American history has shown us just how deadly the Mafia is. Not just in New York, but in Las Vegas as well. I have not found or seen any information on the Yakuza.

I know that the mafia is the deadliest warrior because they are trained and they take strict code of honor. Why was the brass knuckles not in there that is more deadly than the ice pick. The mafia won because they are known for killing and when i looked at the title mafia vs yakuza i had no idea who the yakuza was and now I know that they are not the deadliest warrior.I think the mafia should have not put the molitov cocktail in there.Thank you guys for listening.I would also like to thank Armand Dorian Max Geiger and Geoff Desmoulin.

when you really break down the facts, the mafia deserved the win. martial arts won't get you shit in a gun fight, and just because someone knows martial arts, does not make them invincible. all you martial arts fans need to get out of the fantasy world. just because you saw bruce lee fight, doesn't mean all martial artists are that good. and who's to say the mafia were terrible fighters? i'm sure many of them were skilled boxers, because that was big at the time. and who's to say martial arts is better than boxing? besides, not all yakuza knew martial arts anyway. you all assume that because they are asian.

The Yakuza's martial arts training didn't seem to enter the equation. Thus I question the validity of the final outcome. Weapon vs weapon seem to be the only factors, which do not account for the skills of the people wielding them.

i think yakuza should have won the battle. yakuza has been alive from 17th century until today. and the cast was so amazed for what the bat can do to that human dummy after the yakuza nunchucks tear half of the head of. so of course it was MUCH more easier to take the head off.

still curious how the ice pick would be used to fight, they only tested it for assasination. and that was completely retarded how the mafia beat the yakuza with an icepick and knife when they said that yakuza had better sais. shogun vs pistol is still too hard to compare i think just too different, and that mafia code of honour is hard to buy since if you're not supposed to rat then shouldn't the mafia specialists have a price on their heads, i mean it would look bad if a member of your gang was on tv ratting out secrets would it not?

This fight made little sense to me. The side w/ more shots in their gun won, even though the other side was more accurate w/ an inferior weapon.
The flash bomb smashed the molotov, but apparently this didn't make much of a difference in the simulation.... it's odd, since the bomb blinds all enemies in range while maiming all close and probably killing those targeted... it's possible a single flash bomb could wipe an entire mafia 5-man squad.
The katana wasn't used... it wasn't a common weapon, per se, but I'm sure the boss would have had one, at the very least. As far as concealing goes... well, let's just say a katana is just as easy or easier to hide than a baseball bat, and we know how they'd match up.
The yakuza boss gets out-fought? And killed by an ice pick? I don't quite get that. Besides, his hair is awesome. I'm curious as to why the yakuza boss didn't strike when he realized his walther was out of ammo...
Bat>nunchucks? This seems a moot point to me. One mis-swing of the bat and the swinger loses it.
Martial arts don't seem to be factored into simulation, and given, the matches determined by machineguns would not probably be affected, but at any time in any fight when the fighters close ranks, those with martial skills disarm and defeat those without. Sorry ice pick... meet arm twist. Yakuza learned at least rudimentary martial arts, while the mafia were trained in... heavy drinking and gambling. Whoo.

So who scripted the final fight? It seemed that the Yakuza were scripted to be extremely slow especially in close quarters which will never be the case in real life. I found the final "fight" very one sided. Suggestion: Two fighters of equal expertise, sparing in full padding when it's possible.

i'm deeply disappointed by this episode. they didn't get all the facts about yakuza right.
1. Yakuza don't use Sai, while it originates in Okinawa, it's not typically found in Japanese culture.
2. They use more Tokarev than P38, well at least since 80s.
3. Dosu (short katana, normally in wood casing) is one of their favorite weapons.
4. They use Katana, yes.
5. Their definitive favorite is an aluminum baseball bat, for the easier scull busting.
6. Shotguns are LEGAL in japan, contrary to the popular belief (because handguns are COMPLETELY BANNED in japan). And it has been legal for 50 years. This means they got a LOT of shotguns.
7. Most Yakuza don't know martial arts. They just got balls, too much adrenaline, LOTS of street fight experience, and the organizational strength to make them kick your ass anytime.
8. oh yeah, brass knuckle is one of their primary weapons.
9. wearing purple suits and red shirts, a definite sign that he is a yakuza.....meaning their dress code sucks.,..not to mention bleached hair/permed hair/any other off the beaten path style.
that said, i still hate yakuza. they suck. anyhow, that's all i have to say.

Idiotic. Again, despite the show "hosts/experts" gut feelings of the Green Berets maybe having the advantage, they use software to pick the winner. Yeah, that works real well for picking the college football national champions, too. Give me a break.
The enactments at the end of this show are ridiculous. In this case, I saw two Green Berets just go strolling out into open areas and get blown away. Yeah, they would be that careless. Also, when the final Spetsnaz is in a room and takes out a GB in front of him, then swings around and shoots a GB when he enters the room. Wouldn't the Green Beret be shooting as he enters, not just jump in the room? Who would do that? That kind of crap only happens in action movies where one guy takes out 10 people singlehandedly.

I seriously think the yakuza got robbed in this battle. it's almost like the Mafia won simply based on their 'popularity' in movies (scarface, good fellas, Godfather....etc). The Mafia 'expert' said they were trained?! lol A code of ethics/honor and silence? how exactly would that even compare to martial arts training exactly? bottom line, when it comes down to fisti-cuffs the Yakuza win. period. the guns, etc. are basically even. a bullet is a bullet. the higher calibre doesn't mean jack. take one to the head and you die all the same.

No matter the results, I am blown away with the destruction of that Tommy Gun. Of all the weapons used so far--except grenades--that Tommy Gun absolutely obliterated that dummy.
As far as the testing went. Some times simple tactics are the best. And the glorfied life style of hundreds or thousands of years of training and discipline can all mean crap if it's done wrong. Bruce Lee knew this and he didn't come along until the 60s and 70s to show the martial arts world their mistakes. And he isn't even Japanese Yakuza to help them.
Our modern day showcase of Kung Fu and Karate is all crap in the UFC. Fighting is fighting. Where is the tiger stance in the octagon, where is the ole Karate chop? Those techniques are all crap.
It all comes down to athleticism and having basic muscle memory developed--ask a Thai Kick Boxer.
Same thing applies to weapons and if your weaponry is basically effective, and if you have the will to use them, than you can be effective.
