lol slow weapons? the monks were very agile and flexible and it is the warriors that make the weapons. the hooks had a sick arsenal of stabbing cutting and trapping of the weapon to move in for the kill. And maoris are definitely not as fast as the monk and no where near swift.

I was rooting for the Monk and I figured he'd win. The steel weapon and traditional martial arts were just too much. The Maori is formidable though and I'd love to see him fight a Gladiator.

For their next episode they need to put Jackie Chan vs. Chuck Norris.
Jackie Chan= He can take on 30+ men with guns and win only using a chair
Chuck Norris= He is a great fighter and knows several great styles of self defense and such

I am disappointed that they consider that the Maoris are weaker, i feel that the guys missed some very important things that the monks don't even have a chance.
The women are just as deadly or worse then the males when it comes to war. They have deadly poipois that have glass shards and chipped rocks dipped in poisons and manure...if not deadly-the monk is losing a limb or two from poisonous infections.
There is also the little fact that even if the monk kills the Maori warrior it doesn't mean that the monk himself is going to live with all these poisons and pieces that dig deeper under the skin to the organs. In the Maoris mind, it is not necessary to have the enemy killed right away, if he falls and die because of the wounds the Maori left in him the tribe has considered it good.
So if the Shaolins wins the battle, the Maoris have won the war.

I love all the history i get from watching the show. learning about the weapons and seeing there destructive capabilities. with all that said, i have to admit that the show should be called MOST DEFENSIVE WARRIOR. the show is bases on how much damage a "warrior" can take while standing in 1 place. at no point does this show care about TACTICS, MANUVERABILITY, ATTACKS, or SKILL. it is very easy to tell that the cast and collective have never been in REAL confrontations.... or fake ones. lol
we have CLAYMORES. i wouldn't be dumb enough to use it against a skilled person wielding an african short spear unless the guy couldn't walk. anytime we are in a situation where 1 person has a large slicing weapon against a lighter stabbing weapon we need to make STUPID RULES so as to even things out for the larger weapon. otherwise it's over too quickly.
i would like to see a 2nd season to learn more but we need more people like Chuck Lidel on the show. i loved his comment when he said something about just hitting the opponents arm. that's a real fighter. realisticly the NINJA, SHAKA, and MONK would lead the score boards with stiff comp from apache and maori. get some people on the show to SPAR with these tools. i'll do it. i'll fight everyone just using a light saber fencing style. stab to the molliwhoppin stab!
in the show's deffense: the cpu can crunch numbers but can't call bull.....

All right. Awesome show. There is one problem. On the computer simulations, you test 1000 battles, which is a good idea. The thing you don't do is measure accuracy, power, force, perception, ect. This kind of stuff changes with every warrior. You only measure one or two people's power and stuff. And guns may misfire. That means in any fight with a gun, the results may change in real life. You shouldn't use guns. This goes for all the shows you do.Besides Apachi,Gladiator,Samuri,Viking,Ninja,Spartan,Pirate,Knight,Mafia,Yakuza,Green Beret,Shaolin Monk,Maori,Taliban, and IRA, you should do Eskimos, Navy, Crazy Horse, Hung-Wu, Natzis, and Moctezuma. And Hannibal.

This was about the dumbest display I have seen. Who the heck put this one together? There is absolutely no scholarly, LEGITIMATE historical evidence that the monks ever used half of those weapons. This is just another case of Hollywood idiocy taking over. There little evidence that they carried much more than their typical staff save for their couple military interventions at which time they would wield standard military weaponry (ie swords). It wasn't until 17th century (after their last military incursion mid 1500's; Jiajing reign) that they are attributed to expanding out to spears and halberd weapons. And even then their spear skills were criticized as they were adapting staff technique (a blunt mostly non-lethal self defense weapon) to spear (a sharpened battlefield weapon).
That crap about hook swords and chain whips was fabrication. And don't get me started on those crap Emei piercers. That is nothing more than a modern wu shu joke.
Seriously, did they do ANY research before they put this crap on the show?

I'm curious whether future seasons will also pit famous individual warriors (ie. Shaka vs Wallace) against each other. suggestions should be endless. how bout Achilles vs. Geronimo (or any one of several great Native American warriors)? Alexander the Great vs. Genghis Khan? Sun Tzu vs. Hannibal? Attila the Hun vs. ???? How bout a female deadliest warrior: Joan of Arc vs. ???? Even more modern matchups like Vietnam Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock vs. WW2 Russian sniper Vasily Zaytsev would be interesting. i loved the first season and i hope the producers and creators are reading these comments and continue to value the feedback

One thing I'm noticing more and more is that a lot of weapons that warriors did use in actual history are not being represented in the fights. For example: In Shaolin Monk VS Maori Warrior, you had footage of those circular slicer things, but did not use them in the actual matchup. What are the determining factors for what weapons you put into the matchups?

This show is so pathetically bad at preforming scientific tests. more then half the time the two weapons being compared are tested using different circumstances, that alone means that the test results are useless. They might as well do a caveman vs. a B52 bomber. I would expect something like this to be said.
"Well the bombs are destructive but the caveman is a brute and you only have a limited amount bombs"
I guess I should expect this from a Spike show. All I ask is that they take a more scientific approach and refine there tests...and they need to shut that programmer up and get real experts in, more doctors and perhaps some physicists and the masters of the fighting styles.

Great show
How do you choose which weapons are to be tested? In the Shaolin vs. Maori you did not test either of the Shaolin¿s broadswords, the Gim sword, or any of the long handled weapons like the Monk¿s spade. Cold Steel sells a Shaolin broadsword that they cut through a cow¿s ribcage and I have seen a Gim sword easily cut through a 6in Tatami target, the kind used to test Samurai swords. Some of the long handled Shaolin weapons had sword blades and should cause great damage. I would like to have seen these weapons tested.
I hope the show will continue into future seasons

Some of you are misinformed about the IRA, they didnot fight for religious beliefs. They fought for the seperation from the UK. Also, some of the IRA are actually trained military, and when the IRA started offically started in the 1920's, they were actually a real military. I say this because my great grandfather was in the IRA, he fought the loyalist in Ireland. I AM IRISH AND I AM PROUD.

Oh and one more thing, the Zulus had a spear, i think it is called an Asagi, that they could throw with amazing accuracy from a long distance with devastating results. Instead this show focuses on them using the wooden throwing club. Shaka could spear you from 50 yards out with his throwing spear if you were not paying attention!!! Maybe the Scotts had spears too but trust me the Zulus were better than any European warrior with a spear, it is a shame the show did not take this into account. That said I do think all the steel that Wallace had would create huge problems for Shaka.. Just dont forget that the Zulus defeated the British army and the British had GUNS! Zulus do not fear death, not one tiny bit. They will just keep coming at you until they are all dead if that is what they want to do.

Compugeek needs to get a clue. Every episode he pretends he knows more than he does.
Small people ARE faster than large people. They are also less strong. Anyone that has watched a lightweight bout in wrestling, boxing or mma can see that for every dozen techniques the lightweights employ, the heavyweights complete a fraction of that number in the same amount of time. The lightweights are faster. It is obvious to anyone that has actually trained. This is one reason why some fighters drop down in weight, to use their speed advantage. Why are we listening to this computer geek on anything here other than computer simulation (which is a joke anyway)? It really bugs me.

First of all its an honour to be put in the same ring with the shaolin monks .. they are idols to a lot of Maori .. including me .... But
Give us a Rematch with our own people and our own weapons
- Weve seen the show in NZ now and u need to know that we know the expert on there wasnt one of ours hes a Samoan
- The Mau Taiaha Expert Seamus Fitzgerald .. Maori? .. Yes .. Expert? .. Maybe .. Master? .. No Way
- We know the warrior in the re-enactment wasnt ours either (Hes either Hawaiian or hes lived in Hawaii so long hes forgotten hes a Maori) ..
- the stingray spear (which is more samoan than Maori and used for fishing not fighting)
- the sharktooth club (which is Hawaiian Not Maori)
- Brute Force ??? we move like birds and strike like sharks
Win or lose when the facts are correct the results are more satisfying

Guys,
Every week I wonder why you do not seem to factor height and weight into the equations. As the Maori were NEVER beaten and substantially larger and more powerful than the Shaolin....surely in a face to face meeting, the Maori would physically dominant them.
Can you please advise if you do take height and weight into the fighting equation.
Keep up great work.
