If freedom of speech is a hallmark of democratic society, where does hate speech fit in? Should the 'N word' or the BNP be banned? On the sofa, young participants discuss restrictions on speech and what might really hurt. Munira Mirza, Director of Policy to Boris Johnson leads the discussion, emphasising that bans on hate speech are largely ineffective in changing people's views. One participant asks whether we are creating a hierarchy of victimhood and where bans leave our power to criticise, challenge offensive views and stand up for ourselves.
