Nonie Darwish, a Palestinian-American activist protested the nomination of Paradise Now for this year's Best Foreign Language Oscar. She and The Israel Project contend that by humanizing suicide bombers, this film endorses terrorism and violence. The group also believes that awarding the film international recognition would invite "Hell now... not Paradise Now."
