A New York City policeman, John McClane (Bruce Willis), spends Christmas Eve in Los Angeles with his estranged wife and two daughters in a high-rise office building for his wife's company holiday party. The festivities are interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive high-rise and everyone inside. McClane quickly realizes he's the only hope they've got.
