Hollis - Demander Music Video

NYC-based band Demander was on tour during the month I spent creating the music video for Hollis. Its completion was meant to be a surprise, since they had just released their new first full-length album The Unkindness of Ravens. My main concern was complementing the band's musical persona - which is usually described as joyfully intense, slightly unsettling urban post-punk. It was important for the video's visuals to synthesize into a jarring, engaging story, to mirror the song's own complex structure and sinister narrative. Being true to Hollis also required that the animation capture the seductive quality of the track, along with a few vicious, intermittently unfolded jolts and surprises. The result bridges the gap in my mind between the song's very immediate darkness and the story's place in the strangely long history of obsessive conjurer/monster narratives. Also, there's dancing. Which fits the song. So dance - DANCE!
