Seven Marines and one Navy corpsman are accused of premeditated murder and other charges stemming from an incident in Hamdania, Iraq last April. U.S. military criminal investigators examined whether the troops shot an unarmed disabled Iraqi man in the face, then planted a rifle and shovel to make it appear the man was an insurgent. This case is separate from the November killings of 24 Iraqi civilians in Haditha. The eight accused men in this case face the possibility of the death penalty if convicted.
