This clip is from a 1988 short film directed by Nina Shorina. It begins with a reference to Door and it studies the relationship of art to the everyday via a self-portrait. By the time Shorina was ready to make this highly personal film, her reputation as a director had already been established, and she was able to overcome resistance from studio administrators. The film is based on a short story she wrote in Literary Learning, an influential magazine published during perestroika .
