The mostly white and Christian kids in an isolated, small town in Tennessee had their eyes, minds and souls opened by some teachers with real insight. When faced with the daunting statistic that 6 million people had been killed in the Holocaust, the students couldn't imagine it, let alone believe it to be true. They started a project to collect 6 million paper clips to help them visualize the enormity of the loss of life. Pleas for paper clips went out over the transon, including over the Internet, and the school ended up with almost 30 million paper clips. The 6 million clips involved in the project were fashioned into a memorial by a local artist. Hopefully, the other 24 million paper clips went to good homes.
