Ving Rhames portrays James "Animal" Allen, a violent gang member sentenced to prison, leaving his young son Darius (Terrence Howard) to grow up without guidance in the streets. While still very young, Darius witnesses unspeakable violence, and begins to make a name for himself as "Lil' Animal", becoming entrenched in a world of crime, mirroring the mistakes his father made. Once Animal is released from prison, he strives to end the destructive cycle of violence he has created.
