Traumatized by witnessing the murder of his parents as a young boy, young man Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels east and falls under the tutelage of ninja master Ra's Al Ghul. His return to Gotham finds the decrepit city infested with mobsters and other criminals. Wayne becomes determined to revitalize both the lagging business his parents left behind and the city he now calls home.
