Pilgrimage to Mecca: The Hajj

Posted on: January 12, 2006 | Views: 548 | Comment

According to Sunni Islam (as opposed to Shia Islam), the Five Pillars of Islam constitute the five most important acts a Muslim must perform during their life. These pillars include 1) Profession of faith in Allah; 2) Prayer; 3) Charity; 4) Fasting; and 5) Pilgrimage to Mecca, or Hajj. While in Mecca (located in Saudi Arabia), pilgrims perform various acts including circling the Kaaba which is the holiest site in Islam. Millions of Muslims perform the hajj during the month of Dhu al-Hijjah.
