Last year, Ranya Al-Baz, a popular Saudi TV host was severely beaten --- nearly to death --- by her husband, Muhammad Bakr Yunis. Mr. Bakr thought he had killed her and was on his way to bury her, when she moved and he instead took her to a hospital. On April 29, 2004, Ranya Al-Baz was interviewed by Saudi MBC's Mahmoud Sa'd. Then, on August 1, 2004, Sa'd interviewed the abusive husband and re-aired excerpts from Al-Baz's April interview alongside. While some Saudis appreciated her stepping forward with her story, others criticize her actions for harming Saudis' image abroad.
