If you liked Jamie Foxx as the young Ray Charles, you'll love Ray himself in the same role. The folks at Rhino Records recently turned up a tape of two shows the legend recorded for Brazilian TV in Sao Paolo back in 1963, a day before his 33rd birthday and Ifilm has an exclusive clip of the First 8 Minutes which includes versions of "What'd I Say" and "Take These Chains from My Heart."
The DVD features two concert performances, the second (from Sept. 22, 1963) having been broadcast on TV in Brazil (and includes the original broadcast's commercials, in Portuguese). See Ray Charles and The Raelettes (Margie Hendrix, Gwen Berry, Darlene McCray, Patricia Richards). Also David Newman, Edgar Willis, Wilbert Hogan, Oliver Beener, Roy Burrows, Julian Priester, Frederic "Keg" Johnson, Harold Minerve, Dan Turner, Leroy "Hog" Cooper, Tina Brooks, Dan Turner, Henderson Chambers, Phillip Guilbeau, James Harbert and Elbert "Sonny" Forriest.
