Private detective Ken Karsch promises Mort that he will visit Shooter and make sure that Shooter will hit the road and not bother Mort anymore.
Mort, a writer (Johnny Depp) retreats to the country after a depressing divorce, but he's hounded by a psycho "fan" (John Turturro) who claims Mort plagiarized a story from him. Things get stranger still when Mort hires a detective (Charles Dutton) to investigate the allegations as well as a series of odd coincidences.
