Posted on: April 2, 2007 user submitted | Views: | Comment
In 247 BC, Emperor Qin constructed a tomb where he had an entire army created out of terra cotta. Emperor Qin is said to have been obsessed with immortality and paranoid about assassination. The ceramic army's purpose was to help protect the emperor in his afterlife. It took 700,000 workers over 38 years to construct. Workers with knowledge of the site were buried in the tomb in order to protect the secrecy and safety of its location.
