At E.A.R.T.H. University's model farm, effective microorganism technology, also called "EM," is used to deal with livestock waste and increase soil quality. Natural bacteria and yeasts decompose cow manure into rich organic fertilizer, so chemical fertilizers are not needed. The microorganisms also help keep away those pesky flies.
