Michael Chandler entered Bellator in 2011 as a relative unknown and turned himself into a world-ranked lightweight in a mere four fights. The Las Vegas trained Chandler ran through the Season 4 lightweight tournament, posting victories against Marcin Held, Lloyd Woodard and “Patricky” Pitbull to secure himself a showdown with Bellator champion and top-five lightweight Eddie Alvarez.
In an epic fight that many pundits called 2011’s fight of the year, Chandler submitted Alvarez in the fourth round to claim the Bellator lightweight title. Winning the title with less than 10 pro fights shows the sky truly is the limit for the Missouri born Chandler. He was named Sherdog.com’s 2011 Breakthrough Fight of the Year.
