I'm glad Spike has finally brought League to the states. I first saw it when I was holidaying in Australia 6 years ago. I'm currently holidaying in Australia at the moment, and hope Spike continues the coverage next year. Prior to 2003 I'd only seen Rugby Union and thought it was incredibly boring - I didn't know there was a different sport. I went to a match a couple of weeks back, and according to others in the crowd in Australia, Rugby Union is generally referred to as "Rugby League for girls". It's a brilliant sport.

Thank You Spike for bringing Australian Rugby League to the US.
Please continue next year as well please.
Any chance you could get the V8 Supercars or Bathurst V8 race which is on in a couple of weeks?

I have only been play Rugby (union version) for a year after coming from a football background (with soccer as well) and though i have enjoyed playing Rugby (union) Rugby League is FAR better to watch. Half the time I don't know what is going on in Rugby Union (when playing or watching) The fact that 7's Rugby has been put forward as a Rugby Union option shows the clear weakness of it as a TV option (and for mine Rugby 7's has nothing on the speed, ferocity and 'total game' experience of the NRL games so far. (ps. its dribble that half a mill play Rugby Union)

The new big TV sports have not been from player base (eg. MMA, UFC, Slamball :) but from what easily appeals to the wider audience. Until recently I had not watched pretty much any Rugby League (except highlights on youtube) but not only do I certainly want to watch more but WHERE DO I GET To PLAY THIS IN CALIFORNIA?

Yeah Rooster5, rugby league is the closest sport to American football so its a lot easier for Americans to follow the NRL.

Couldn't agree less with VinnieG. Rugby Union has only started to become slightly less watchable because it has implemented some of the League rules, and then it's still a tad dull. League is alot closer to American Football only faster.

While ANY Rugby is a rare plasure to see on US TV. The vast majority of people in this country who play rugby, play Rugby Union (over 500,000) . And considering that 7 a side rugby is what will be included in the Olympics soon, The IRB 7s World Series would bring more Americans to Rugby and a larger market share to Spike TV.

To Union players, Rugby League is boring and slow. In 7s Rugby, teams average a try per minute. The vast space, non stop action, and fewer players make for a more athletic and exciting game.

If Spike TV wants to get more people watching their broadcasts, they would be well advised to cover Union Rugby, and more specifically, 7s Rugby.

    Awesome Spike! Keep it coming!
One thing I got to say...... Phil Gould and Johns make every Australian appear totally stupid!
They were Morons ten years ago when I moved from Aussie, they are even worse now.
Man that Gould is F**CKING Stupid! He flips from "That was Brilliant!" to 30 seconds later "they're playing like their dysfunctional"
He is as bad as Fatty V........ could not be worse ambassadors for a fantastic sport.

Well done Spike. I expect it is available because Setanta dropped it, for whatever reason. Will Spike commit to 2010?

Spike look at the numbers closely. See a future, grow the market. It's there.
Try NRL 2010 on for size. If you only broadcast "State of Origin' and the Finals series that'll be enough for me. I regularly host NRL evenings for the locals here in Michigan with material gained without permission. The quality is average, the enthusiasm high. Bring us back to the TV and the Cable box. Broadcast the National Rugby League.

Wel lI agree on the point that we should have had Rugby league al ong time ago -but I ( along with a lot of toher expat Aussies ) are very greatful SPIKE has taken this up - itIalways thought this would work on basic cable t need ot be a premuim thing...Now as an expat Aussie woh knows the NRL well a few little things spike could do to make it easeir for AMericans watching to learn the game

A few positives - I think they've done well with putting together the broadcast - particulalry when you think the game kicks off @ 5:30am Friday USA EST ( although I was watcihng the Saturday Game (Gold Coast Titans /Brisbane Broncos game online and the Ch 9 Commentators during that game refernced SPIKE TV - is spike carrying the Saturday/weekend games as well???

on the postiive side, the boradcast is good - Spike lets the game flow, and only put in ads where they were initally created by C h9 in Sydney - I tithink the corss promotion is good as well-(it's obviuos CH 9 is happy to have the game coming in to the states- it's big thing dwon to know that spike has picked up the Game (It is ltaked about dwon there by a lot of people I know that's for sure - a few litlte ctioricims though - I thiink they coudl do better to enhance the covererage

    1) I think they should get a host for the Broadcast- even if there's a quick 2-3 minute overview of what the viewer will see there has to be an ex palyer here who could host and provide a breif overview of the game - I aslo think the runnig ticker isn't really enough to explain the game maybe such a host could come on at half time jsut to give a little update nad explain things ..

I think it only needs minimal tweaking though - It is definlty a game people wil lpick through watching it - I still say SPIKE SHOULD CONSIDER DOING An NRL GAME OF THE WEEK FOR THE 2010 SEASON!!!
