Deadliest Warrior Guyifier
Each week on Deadliest Warrior, a new episode will pit two of the most feared warriors civilization has ever known against each other. Along with the use of 21st century science and the latest in CGI technology, each episode enlists warrior-specific world-class fighters and experts to provide insight into what makes these combatants tick, analyzing every facet of their unique skills of destruction, culminating in a head-to-head final fight between two legends of the battlefield that will produce the deadliest warrior. Other highly-anticipated showdowns this season include: Pirate vs. Knight, Taliban vs. IRA, Yakuza vs. Mafia, Viking vs. Samurai, Green Beret vs. Spetznaz, Maori vs. Shaolin Monks, William Wallace vs. Shaka Zulu and Ninja vs. Spartan. Check out Deadliest Warrior on Facebook

I may be the only one to have this concern or issue...but how can you test out the warriors and their fighting style? Our own life style isn't the same, our mindsets are different, our bodies built differently. Even the way we make weapons today can only mimic the way they made theirs. Is it really fair to say you're testing out these warriors? Despite that...a show that I can't wait to get into!

It occurs to me you might be missing out on some of the greatest warriors of all time...for example the Mohawk Nation of the Iroquois...these guys made the Apache look PRETTY WEAK in hand to hand combat...half the reason the Apache survived for so long is that the inhabited land that NOBODY really wanted..still though fine warriors but no match for the Mohawk....don't believe me look up the War of 1812...they weren't there to help there would have been a sign over Canada saying.."UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT"LOLOLOLOL

There is a bias given to the indian by not using fighters trained in the use of long weapons such as tridents or short range weapons such as swords. On the otherhand not having a long range weapon like a bow and arrow also shades the results. I hope they don't continue to fix the fights.

So the apache wins because of a bow, the one weapon i think EVERYONE HAD (especially the romans). This show fails.

No way that could happen. your computer program is very flawed, your thought process is so bias its not even funny. lets face it if you sided at all with the gladiators, i think you were scared the very unstable , insecure natives would maybe scalp you or something lol? Remember cowboys and indians...how did that work for the apache? or for that matter any native american? your trying to B.S. me into believing that an apache warrior could utterly destroy a gladiator, when they couldnt even defeat some illiterate men on horse back who for the most part found their family relations sexually stunning lol? just watched the first episode. that was amazing! steel vs. spirit. just watching the apache specialists look like they wanted to kill the historical specialists told me that regardless of size and steel, they weren't going to go down easy. however, i do understand some historical concerns and am glad that they're trying to do this very CSI-like. as for the viewers who want the mohawk (i took my students to the aboriginal exhibit, and MAN, the mohawk had killing down cold!), i agree, but the producers need something for next season too, right? let's just assume that the best native fighter from any band/nation would outwit and conquer the gladiator... WOW!

if it was a roman soldier instead of a gladiator it would have been no contest in favor of the roman, they had to find the weakest clumsiest roman fighter, the gladiator, to even give the apache a chance. A roman soldier was fully armored and they had bows too(SHOCKER). Apaches would be no match for a trained roman soldier.

SHOW fighters or people defending their people? A Bow wins a lot of fights, just because someone is skilled in hand to hand fighting, with people saying ok.... go and fight him, doesn't mean he's going to kick ass fighting anyone else.

i just watched the first show, and i have to say i'm not very happy about the match up. i have nothing but respect for the native american fighters. they are some of the best hit and run fighters out there, look what they did to custer. but come on the gladiator was trained for nothing else than killing. they had all the long range for the indian, well the gladiator had long range weapons to. some of witch are still in the olympics, the javilin. they also had bows to. and i think they didn't use the shield to its fullest. also you are getting time lines mixed up in the time when the gladiators where around the indians where not using metal arrows. you want to look at one good example of a true gladiator all you have to do is look at the spartans.

Okay. I saw the first episode, and I'll say that the outcome was not entirely surprising. Gladiators were not given armor for the battlefield. If you look at the pictures you will note that the armor often leaves that torso (the most common target) very much exposed.
Of course, a Gladiator was meant to die in a very spectacular fashion in the arena. Not win wars of conquest.
I would suggest a look at the men whom conquered for Rome, the Legionnaire of Rome.
One look at the kit, and you will realize that they had real (for the period) armor protection for the torso, a descent helmet, a good quality large shield, and high level of professionalism and discipline . And then add a wide number of choices for weapons, including they're own bow and arrow!
I am not sure how well a Legionnaire would fare one on one. But that is the purpose of this show right?

It was a great show, and yes they did have certain advantages for the Apache. And perhaps in a ring the outcome would have been different, but the enviroment does not change the fact that the Gladiator was a little to slow compared to the speed of the Apache. Also as someone else said, the bow and arrow was a bit of a one sided weapon when compared to the sling... But remember they still got alot more warrior races to go. I personally can't wait to see the next episode... but maybe thats cuz i just like violence alot hehe.

So I hope we don't see a trend here about people boo hoo-ing that the fighter they wanted to win, lost, and then claiming THEY could have beat up the winner, that's retarded, these guys are just doing the best they can with what they're given, obviously its not perfect, but its insanely entertaining, so chill out. Great show.

OK....I signed up for this website because of you guys. I will be the first to admit that I'm not an expert on either of these warriors but come on people the fight at the end was a simulation. They only said that about a billion times but just in case you missed it, SIMULATION. That means that it was just something pretty they put together to showcase the results. There were no woods, or an arena, or for that matter a realistic earth. If you must imagine it than just see the fighting area as a big cube made up of a green glowing grid. So please stop complaining about the Apache getting up after getting hit or the gladiator not using his shield. They did not really get two people to fight to the death or base the results on what two stuntmen were told to do by a coordinator. It was a simulation.

First off you had a professional fighter in a gladiator, they were given special weapons that were designed for a good show. They fought in an arena and fought single, multiple or animal opponents. The Apache was a hit and run soldier fighting in the environment that he chose most of the time. This is an inaccurate experiment because it would like comparing a professional fighter against a special forces soldier. They both have distinctive advantages in their own type of fights. The more accurate fight would have been to have the Apache and roman legionary fight. The Apache weapons were nothing the Romans had not seen and defeated before, except the gun of course. I think the main factor is the weapons the Apache had were in use and in most cases better in Europe and Asia for Thousands of years. The Roman Republic and later Empire conquered a hugely vast area and defeated people much more advanced and better equipped than the Apache. There is a reason why until the invention of the firearm the roman gladius was responsible for more deaths than any other weapon. There is a reason why the entire world fights in the european style of warfare. Starting with the Persians, Greeks, and Romans who developed the fighting styles still used today, and adopted by the countries they invaded and occupied absorbing them into provinces of the empire. The bottom line is in an arena the gladiator wins while in the woods or open ground the advantages go to the Apache and he wins.

Exactly. They chose 2 warriors that are very popular. Gladiators are badass and everybody loves them. Thats why they chose them. If they chose people like legionarys who you say would win for sure the show loses its point because we all know the outcome. When i watched it i didn't know who would win though i was hoping it would be the apache. Thats what made the show interesting.

Really great show! Loved it!! I like the technicality of the tests for the different weapons and I hope to see a lot more of these show since lots of great warriors went through history!! Just one question, does your simulation take in the luck that is a part of any fight?? Even a rookie sometime downed a great warrior through a lucky hit.

people people stop crying its not the arrow that won the fight everyone had them yes but if you remember the KNIFE won not the bow the Indian cut him and stabs and sliced so quick the gladiator couldnt do anything about it he had heavy armor on and had narrowed vision so its easy to maneuver around him the knuckle thing the gladiator used did effect the Indian he almost lost because of it its a great show and fair as hell 1000 BATTLES hows is it not fair its very obvious that he won give it up god its entertaining and informative

wow lol. first of all this show is amazing because i simply love violence. secondly the bow scored just as many wins as the apache's Knife skills. gladiators were not trained to fight they were trained to kill and be killed thats why they dont wear life sustaining armour such as idk... a breastplate lol.. also all the apache's weapons were able to be used at range not just the bow and arrow there was the tomahawk and the knives too except that stupid war club lol what about the apache spear or lance sumthing trident like? oh well. to those who say the gladiator shud have a gladius.... why would he carry a sica and a gladius.the gladiator also wore a stupid helmet which cut off most of his visonwhich would make it easy to lose an elusive warrior even in a collisium. nuff said point is the gladior is an actor not a soldier where the apache used his weapons every day to wage war and hunt it shudnt have even been close. a legioaire or centurian wud probly kick his ass tho..
more interestly iw ould have liked to see a tribe of apaches
vs an equal sized phalanx of professional roman soliders

Also i was wondering how the gladiator even got close to the apache. In a real situation i doubt the gladiator would get close enough. 2.4 seconds 3 kills with a knife and he said they would carry like 20 knives if they could. I thought he would have thrown more.

Overall, I liked the first episode. It was entertaining. The different reenactments were great, and though I am no true historian, I found them to really show what each warrior culture was all about. I loved the great use of experts, but I question the choice of letting them trash talk each other. It really turned me off at times. I would tone down the trash talk, or get rid of it all together.
The explanation, demonstration, and presentation of weapons was great. However there was little to no real consideration of the fighting styles of each weapon. An example would be the trident vs. the knife. The edge was given to the trident based on the damage it did, not really the fighting style. Considering the two demonstrations of styles, the trident style was used most effectively when used against an opponent with a shield. If the Apache didn't use a shield, he would have full vision of the fight, (a shield can and will block vision when used,) and can easily sneak a few thrown knives in (remember, if they could carry 20, they would.) The trident did have reach, and the net could snare an opponent, but I still disagree with it having an edge over the knife.
I actualy question the choice of picking a gladiator. They were trained to fight, but there were few who lived long enough to make a career out of it. They were trained to die, for entertainment, and their lives were short. Their weapons were specialized, and in actual battles outside of an arena, very ineffective. They didn't have bows because it didn't look good in a show to just shoot someone. That isn't to say that bows were not used in an Colosseum. They were used in a few of the larger scale fights, and they were used to keep the gladiators (and animals) from climbing the walls.
Apache vs. Mayan, now that's a fight I wouldn't mind seeing, and I think is better matched.
