    Me & Mickey D - Post V - January 30, 2007

The last week and another pound and a half lost for a total weight loss of 9 1/2 pounds during the January 2007 McDiet. I feel and look better so where's the beef with McDonald's?? I guess I find that I'm offended by the notion that junk science, food regulations and fat taxes will somehow magically transform the U.S. into a svelte and healthy populace. I know that the real problem has more to do with consuming in mass quantities and not in the food itself. In the meantime my main goal is to rebuild "M Play Video

Gone to the Dogs - Judging the English Foxhound

An informal judging session with AKC judges Susan Parsons and Christine Pollender-Calcinari. The owners of Park Avenue Kennels bring a group of English Foxhounds from the same litter to be evaluated in an informal setting. The litter is just over a year old but you can see the differences in the individual dogs. There are not many English Foxhounds in the U.S. so this was a unique opportunity for both judges to increase their knowledge of the breed. For more information visit www.parkavefoxhounds.com . This past week was hard financially (part of the cycle of being self-employed) so it's a good thing I was eating under the Golden Arches which can be very affordable. But just because I have less to spend doesn't mean I should be less vigilant about my food choices. Even with $5 a day you can still eat healthy at McDonal Play Video

Two weeks in and I've lost another 2 pounds for 5 pound loss in total.... same results as I've experienced before. One of the most interesting things about this project is researching the history of our relationship with food. One of my favorite books is "A Field Guide to the Rich" by Richard Conniff. An interesting look at our relationship with food over thousands of years of history. Not surprising though was finding out that we've always had a propensity for blaming outside forces for our obesity pro Play Video
