Spike Brings Back the Audacious Faux Reality Show Where Only One Contestant is Real

“The Joe Schmo Show” Premieres Tuesday, January 8 at 10 PM, ET/PT

New York, NY, December 10, 2012 – Spike has once again turned the tables on the reality show genre with “The Joe Schmo Show.”  The one-hour, 10-episode series features one real guy who believes he is on a new, over-the-top reality show looking for America’s next bounty hunter, but in reality is actually surrounded entirely by actors.  His cast-mates are a motley crew of reality show clichés including Lorenzo Lamas, playing himself, who must do their best under these unusual circumstances to follow a pre-determined outline.  “The Joe Schmo Show” premieres on Spike with two back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, January 8 from 10 PM – midnight, ET/PT.

One of television’s biggest and riskiest experiments once again looks to discover how a reality contestant would react to encountering a show filled with every outlandish element reality television has showcased.  How far can producers push this ‘reality,’ and the ensuing ridiculous competitions? And of course, will the actors be convincing enough or will the unsuspecting “contestant” figure it all out?

The true hero of the show undoubtedly is the “Joe,” Chase Rogan, who demonstrates a keen sense of integrity and humanity, even under duress from the absurd predicaments he finds himself in.

Chase Rogan is an all around good guy.  This 28-year-old Pennsylvania native and sports fanatic lives in Pittsburgh with his wife.  A certified professional agronomist, he owns and operates his own business, PureTurf Consulting, LLC.  Always up for a good time and adventure, Chase willingly submitted a casting video of himself to be on a new competition reality show.

In this installment,  Chase believes he has been cast as one of several contestants in a new reality-competition series where the winner will become a bounty hunter.  He’ll face an assortment of bounty hunting-related challenges, from learning how to defuse a bomb to interrogating a hostile witness, totally oblivious to the fact that all the crazy situations he is placed in are scripted.  Ralph Garman reprises his role from the first two “Joe Schmo” seasons as the show “host” along with a cast that showcases stereotypical reality show participants, ranging from a ditsy model to the self-absorbed, attention-grabbing jerk and from a classic overachiever to an ex-con whose found God.

The original season of “The Joe Schmo Show” debuted on Spike in September 2003 and was among television’s first faux reality series.  One of the highest rated series in the history of Spike, the finale drew 3.4 million viewers.

“The Joe Schmo Show” is produced by Barry Poznick and John Stevens of Zoo Productions, an All3 media company. J. Holland Moore serves as Executive Producer.

Sharon Levy is Spike’s Executive Vice President, Original Series and Jeff Savaiano serves as Executive in Charge of Production, Spike.

“The Joe Schmo Show”

Character/Actor Bios

(listed in alphabetical actor order)

Rob Belushi as Allen, The Buddy…

Allen is like a walking, talking Labrador Retriever.  He is always supportive, always happy to see you and is always positive.

Rob Belushi has appeared in recurring roles on the small screen including “The Defenders” and “According to Jim.”  His big screen credits include “Thunderstruck,” “One Small Hitch” and “Cougars, Inc.”  He can next be seen in the motion picture “Heebie Jeebies.”

Lombardo Boyar as Chico, The Ex Con…

Chico is an ex gang-banger who found religion in prison.  Formerly addicted to everything, Chico is trying to start a new life.  He thinks of bounty hunting as a form of mission work.

Lombardo Boyar is best known for his roles on “The Bernie Mac Show” and “Over There.” Other credits include: “Happy Feet 2”, “Breakout Kings”, “Awake”, “GCB”, “Southland,” “Modern Family” and the new season of Showtime’s “Shameless.”

Chelsey Crisp as Chloe, The Model…

Chloe really hopes appearing on a reality show will boost her modeling career.  She’s in her mid-twenties and knows that those Eastern European endorsement deals won’t last forever.

Chelsey Crisp has appeared on “Happy Endings,” “The Office,” “Rizzoli & Isles,” “CSI: Miami” and “NCIS.”  In addition to acting, she is the Artistic Director of the Duchess Riot All-Female Comedy and a company member at ACME Comedy Theatre.

Fred Cross as Stan, The Interpreter…

As Karlee’s ASL interpreter, Stan is her bridge to communicating with the rest of the world.  He also is in a romantic relationship with Karlee.  It’s so secret that no one, not even Karlee is aware of it.

Fred Cross trained at the Second City Conservatory.  He is fluent in American Sign Language, which he learned as a child from his grandmother who was deaf.  He’s used this skill in a number of notable roles as an interpreter on the television series “Scrubs” and “Weeds.”  His other acting credits include “Parks and Recreation,” “Criminal Minds” and “House.”

Meghan Falcone as  Skylar, The Widow…

Skylar is looking for a new career since her husband died in a freak cement-pouring accident and left her with an infant daughter to raise.  She’s led a very sheltered life and she’s often oblivious to the world around her.

Meghan Falcone can be seen as the recurring character of “Shari” in the new season of “Californication.” In addition to acting, Meghan writes and performs for Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in LA.

Ralph Garman as Jake Montrose, owner and operator of Montrose Bail Bonds…

Jake can’t go through metal detectors because he’s tough as nails with balls of steel.  Owner and operator of Montrose Bail Bonds and Fugitive Recovery Services, Jake has built an empire that has franchises in 37 states and Canada.  As his commercials state, “He has a 110% success rate.  He finds felons people didn’t even know were missing.”

Ralph Garman is a multi-faceted actor, impressionist and voice-over specialist.  Most recently, he appeared in Seth McFarlane’s live-action feature film “TED.” Ralph has voiced several characters on “Family Guy” and is a regular on KROQ radio station’s “Kevin and Bean” morning show.

Lorenzo Lamas as Lorenzo Lamas…

The classic cautionary tale for Hollywood stars.  A victim of aging, four ex-wives, and six kids, Lamas looks at this reality show as a chance for him to find a new career.  He needs the money.  Just ask his ex-wives.

Lorenzo Lamas is best known for portraying Lance Cumson on the popular 1980s soap opera “Falcon Crest,” Reno Raines on the 1990s crime drama “Renegade” and Hector Ramirez on the daytime soap opera “The Bold and The Beautiful.”   Recognized for his dramatic turns, Lamas is now taking on more comedic roles and has even started to perform standup comedy.

Amanda Landry as Wanda Montrose, The Ditzy Wife…

Wanda may be as dumb as a rock, but she is hot as hell.  She worships her husband, Jake.  He’s her confidante, lover and grandfather figure.  Sure, her youthful exuberance sometimes gets on Jakes nerves, but he puts up with it because she looks fantastic in a bathing suit.

Amanda Landry has made guest appearances in several popular sitcoms including “American Dreams” and “Men at Work” but most recently she’s been recognized for her role as ‘Angel’ in the national DirectTV commercial.

Nikki McKenzie as Allison, The Overachiever…

Allison is the classic over-achiever.  She excels at everything and was a straight A student since pre-pre-school, even graduating medical school at the age of 22.  She’d be a great doctor if only she didn’t have explosive anger issues that prevent her from practicing.

Nikki McKenzie has appeared on various television series, including “Greek,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Ringer,” “Happy Endings” and “House of Lies.”  She is currently studying at Upright Citizens Brigade.

Jo Newman as Karlee, The Deaf Girl….

Karlee is out to prove that she’s very “handi-capable.”  She is a fierce competitor.

Jo Newman is a member of the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater in both New York and LA.  She is also a member of an all-female improv team, “That’s What She Said!” She’ll soon be seen on HBO’s “Hello Ladies.”

Segun Oduolowu as Lavernius, The Black Guy…

Lavernius is big, loud, fierce, and black.  Physically, Lavernius is a competitor that cannot be ignored.  However, he’s got a secret that will definitely shake up the game.

Segun Oduolowu has appeared on shows as varied as “Weeds” and “Mind of Mencia” as well as numerous appearances on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”  He is also the creator of “The Program” a personal fitness company that is designed to improve the lives of young athletes.

Michael Weaver as Randy, The Asshole…

Randy is offensive, rude, and completely self-absorbed.  He’s your typical reality show asshole and he’s clearly not here to make friends.  Randy will lie, cheat, or sleep his way to victory.

Michael Weaver has numerous television credits including “Up All Night,” “Happy Endings,” “Last Man Standing” and “Parenthood,” among others.  He’s also appeared on the big screen in “Super Troopers,” “Club Dread” and “The Greatest Game Ever Played.”  He recently appeared on “The Mob Doctor” and can next be seen in “Hot In Cleveland.”
