Halifax, NS, July 18, 2016 – “The Mist,” a multi-million dollar original television series adapted from the Stephen King novella begins principle photography today in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  American cable network Spike TV has ordered 10 hour-long episodes of the series which will premiere on Spike in 2017.

“The Mist” tells the story of a foreboding mist that arrives in one small town ushering in a terrifying new reality for its residents, putting their humanity to the test.  What will people do to survive when blinded by fear?  The cast includes Morgan Spector, Frances Conroy, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Dan Butler, Luke Cosgrove, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner and Isiah Whitlock, Jr.

“We were intent on finding the perfect location – a place that could double for Maine, where the story is set, and one with an experienced crew base and proven track record that would work to fulfill our other requirements,” says Tom Prince, Executive Vice President of Physical Production/Post of TWC-Dimension Television,  which is producing the series in conjunction with Halifax-based Magic Rock Productions.

“We intend to see this series develop into a signature show for Spike, and after hearing the pitch for Nova Scotia, we felt confident that the look, feel and the overall attitude of the province were right for this project,” says Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Spike.

The series will be shot mostly in Halifax with some additional shooting in the Windsor area.

Magic Rock Productions, founded by Michael Mahoney in 1998, has a successful history of bringing international productions to Halifax and area, including the limited series“The Lizzie Borden Chronicles” (Lifetime) featuring Christina Ricci, “Bag of Bones” (Sony), starring Pierce Brosnan and “Jumping the Broom” (Columbia TriStar), starring Angela Bassett and Paula Patton.

Spike Launches “Lip Sync Battle” App

New York, NY, July 18, 2016 – Spike is bringing its hit series “Lip Sync Battle” directly to the fans with a new interactive app launching this fall to coincide with premiere of Season 3 of the multiplatform hit series.

Spike’s “Lip Sync Battle” app will allow fans to create lip sync videos to their favorite songs and battle friends in keeping with the hit series format. Aspiring lip syncers are able to choose the song of their choice from all genres and create the coolest lip sync videos by  adding new custom filters and music video special effects. By sharing the video through social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc) fans can accrue ‘likes’ in the app from the Lip Sync Battle community and see how their lip sync ranks on the leaderboard.

New York, NY, July 13, 2016 –  Further casting has been announced for Spike’s new original scripted series “The Mist,” based on the classic Stephen King novella of the same name.  From TWC-Dimension Television (TV), “The Mist” goes into production later this summer and premieres on Spike in 2017.

“The Mist” tells the story of a foreboding mist that arrives in one small town ushering in a terrifying new reality for its residents, putting their humanity to the test.  What will people do to survive when blinded by fear?  The additional casting includes (in alphabetical order):

Gus Birney as “Alex Cunningham,” the teenage daughter of Kevin and Eve Cunningham.  She’s always been the ‘good daughter,’ but her over-protective mother helps to kick-start a rebellious streak.  Birney is currently appearing in “The Rose Tattoo” at the Williamstown Theater Festival opposite Marisa Tomei.  She is repped by CESD and Suskin Management.

Dan Butler as “Father Romanov,” a priest who is caught in between modernity and tradition, he has lost his faith but clings to the ritual. Dan’s many credits range from “Silence of the Lambs” to “Crazy, Stupid Love,” on film; from “Frasier” to “Prayers for Bobby”  to “From the Earth to the Moon,” on TV, as well as major roles on and off Broadway.  Independent films include “Chronic Town,” “Fixing Frank” and his award winning writing and directing ventures, “Karl Rove, I Love You” and “Pearl.”  Butler is represented by CESD and Station 3.

Luke Cosgrove as “Jay Heisel,” a popular local football superstar and the son of the town sheriff who finds himself accused of a heinous crime.   Cosgrove was born in Nambour, Queensland and raised on the Sunshine Coast, spending much of his time in the ocean surfing. He started acting at the age of 11 and in his late teens, he moved to Brisbane to pursue his passion professionally, where he starred in several short independent Australian productions. This is his first television role.  Cosgrove is represented by Authentic and BMEG in Australia.

Danica Curcic as “Mia Lambert,” a drug-addicted woman on the run and in search of a mysterious stash of money.  Curcic is an award-winning Serbian-Danish actress. After several leading roles in productions at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen, she segued her career into feature films including “on The Edge,” “The Absent One,” “Silent Heart,” “All Inclusive” and “Gold Coast.” Her upcoming films include the WWII drama “Across the Waters” and “Darling,” where she plays a world-renown ballerina.  She will also appear in the Norwegian TV series “Nobel” about the Afgan War.   Curcic is represented by Untitled.

Okezie Morro as “Jonah Dixon,” a military man with amnesia. He can’t remember who he is.  As the truth about his identity unravels, shocking secrets will be revealed. Morro is a graduate of the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).  His first film role was in the George Lucas-produced World War II epic “Red Tails” opposite Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard and David Oyelowo.  He immediately followed up with a supporting role in “World War Z.”  His television credits include MTV’s “Shuga” and BBC’s “New Tricks.” Morrow is represented by United Agents in London and NB Management in LA.

Darren Pettie as “Connor Heisel,” the local alpha male, town sheriff and father to local football superstar Jay.  He struggles to maintain order in an increasingly chaotic and dangerous situation, finding himself up against many who have it out for his accused son.  A veteran of both screen and stage, Pettit recently wrapped production on “Sidney Hall.” His latest film, “The Scarecrow,” premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.  In television, Pettie was last seen on The Good Wife (CBS), and additional recent credits include Rizzoli & Isles (TNT), Scandal (ABC), and Pan Am (ABC).  Pettie is represented by TalentWorks and Sanders.Armstrong.Caserta Management.

Russell Posner as “Adrian Garff,” an insecure young teenager who comes to the defense of his best friend Alex, after she is the victim of a brutal crime.  A witness to the crime, he finds himself at the center of a controversy which threatens to rip apart the community.    Russell Posner broke onto the scene with a starring role in the 2015 Sundance Film Festival darling “The D Train” with Jack Black and James Marsden. Prior to that, Posner had supporting roles in “Louder Than Bombs” with Gabriel Bryne and Jesse Eisenberg and John Turturo’s “Fading Gigolo” with Woody Allen. Posner is represented by Authentic and the Gersh Agency.

Isiah Whitlock, Jr. as “Gus Redman,” a local mall manager.  When a new society forms from the mist survivors at the mall, Gus will have to decide if he will take the role of leader and exactly how far he will go to keep order.  Whitlock recently completed filming Warner Bros “Chips,” directed by Dax Shepard, and the Independent film “Human People.” He also recently appeared in Amazon’s “Chi-Raq” directed by Spike Lee and the remake of Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” being released this August. On television, Whitlock starred as ‘Senator Clay Davis’ on the acclaimed HBO series “The Wire.” He currently recurs on HBO’s Emmy®-winning comedy series “Veep” as ‘Secretary of Defense General George Maddox.’ He will next be seen starring this fall in the FX series “Atlanta” and FOX’s “Son of Zorn.” Whitlock is represented by CornerStone Talent Agency and Liebman Entertainment.

New York, NY, July 12, 2016 – Alyssa Sutherland has joined the cast of Spike’s new scripted series “The Mist.”  From TWC-Dimension Television (TV) based on the classic Stephen King novella, “The Mist” goes into production this summer and airs in 2017. The announcement was jointly made today by Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Spike and Bob Weinstein, Co-Chairman The Weinstein Company.

“The Mist” tells the story of a foreboding mist that arrives in one small town ushering in a terrifying new reality for its residents, putting their humanity to the test.  What will people do to survive when blinded by fear?

Sutherland will play “Eve Cunningham,” Sutherland will play “Eve Cunningham,” a wife and mother who fights to protect her teenage daughter from unknown dangers lurking both inside and outside the mist while facing down her past.

Alyssa Sutherland currently stars on History’s breakout historical drama series, “Vikings,” as Queen Aslaug.  Before joining the cast of “Vikings,” Sutherland appeared in several independent films including  “The Fortune Theory,” “Don’t Look Up,” and “Day On Fire” with Olympia Dukakis, which screened at the Toronto and Berlin Film Festivals.  On the small screen, she has appeared on NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and Fox’s “New Amsterdam.”  A native of Brisbane, Australia, Sutherland began modeling at the age 15 before starting her acting career.  Sutherland is represented by UTA and Untitled.

Sutherland joins Frances Conroy, who was previously announced as playing “Nathalie,” a modern day ecological martyr.

New York, NY, July 7, 2016 – Why wait until the holidays or family reunions to reveal outrageous and often cringe-worthy secrets? Spike is launching a new one-hour game show, “That Awkward Game Show,” where parents and their adult children compete to win a large cash prize while learning some of the most ridiculously shocking truths about their next of kin.  The show is hosted by actor and comedian Jeff Dye (“Better Late Than Never,” “I Can Do That,” “Girl Code,” “Last Comic Standing”).

The 11-episode series, which marks Spike’s first foray into the in-studio game show format, will be Executive Produced by A. Smith & Co. Productions (“Hell’s Kitchen,” “American Ninja Warrior,” “Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge”).

As if having the talk with your children wasn’t bad enough, imagine having to explain to your kid the details of the night they were conceived, or revealing to your parent that you secretly married the boyfriend they’ve never approved of – all of the skeletons are about to come out of the closet on “That Awkward Game Show.”

Each episode will feature three teams of two (comprised of one parent and one adult child per team) trying to figure out which embarrassing factoid is related to their teammate (and family member!). In order to advance throughout the game, contestants will have to identify uncomfortable, often outrageous, previously unknown truths about their loved ones.  The parent/kid duo who answers the most questions correctly will win a major cash prize.

“That Awkward Game Show” will tape this summer and debut in the Fall.

Jeff Dye is an actor, host, prankster and nationally touring comedian. Most recently starring in NBC’s “I Can Do That,” Dye’s next project with the network is the forthcoming “Better Late Than Never,” a new series that will follow the travels of legendary personalities as they experience the adventure of a lifetime. First gaining national recognition on “Last Comic Standing,” Dye has gone on to host MTV’s “Money From Strangers” and “Numbnuts.” Dye has also been featured on his own “Comedy Central Presents” special and has starred in additional TV projects, including “Girl Code” and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

10-Episode Series To Debut on Spike in 2017

New York, NY, June 23, 2016 – Frances Conroy has signed on to star in Spike’s new scripted series “The Mist.”  From TWC-Dimension Television (TV) based on the classic Stephen King novella, “The Mist” goes into production this summer and airs in 2017. The announcement was jointly made today by Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Spike and Bob Weinstein, Co-Chairman The Weinstein Company.

“The Mist” tells a harrowing story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and creates immense havoc.   Conroy has been cast in the role of “Nathalie,” a modern day ecological martyr.  While she is seemingly more connected to nature than most people, her instincts about her fellow humans are dead on.

Conroy is best known for playing Ruth Fisher on the television series “Six Feet Under.”  Her work on the show won her acclaim and several awards, including a Golden Globe® and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.  She is also known for playing the older version of her character Moira O’Hara on season one of the television anthology series “American Horror Story,” which garnered Conroy an Emmy® nomination. Conroy subsequently portrayed The Angel of Death, Myrtle Snow and Gloria Mott on the next three seasons of the show, “Asylum,” “Coven” and “Freak Show,” respectively. For her performance in “Coven,” she was nominated again for an Emmy®.  Conroy can also be seen in the Hulu original series “Casual.”  Conroy is represented by Echo Lake Entertainment and Paradigm Talent Agency.

Los Angeles, CA June 3, 2016 – Spike TV is celebrating the 21st anniversary of Martin Scorsese’s classic film, Casino at the 10th Annual “Guys Choice.” The legendary cast mates of Casino, actors Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci will reunite to receive the prestigious entry into the “Guy Movie Hall of Fame” at Spike’s annual celebration of comedic genius, legendary entertainers, and superstar athletes.

 

This year, “Guys Choice” will have a ‘Rat-Pack’ Las Vegas theme for its 10th Anniversary celebration.  The A-list, ultimate guys night out, tapes Saturday, June 4 at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA and premieres Thursday, June 9 at 9:00 PM, ET/PT on Spike.

 

Previous winners include Goodfellas, Swingers, Old School, and There’s Something About Mary.   Casino is a timeless classic that tells the story of a top gambling handicapper who is selected by the Italian Mob to run a casino in Las Vegas.
