Spike TV Travels The Infamous Silk Road To Develop New Drama, “Deep Web,” From Tony Krantz And Gary Oldman’s Flying Studio Pictures

New York, NY, September 16, 2014 – Spike TV is partnering with prominent producer/director/writer Tony Krantz (“Mulholland Drive,” “Felicity,” “Sports Night” and “24”) of Flame Ventures, and Flying Studio Pictures, the production partnership of the world renowned actor and critically-acclaimed, award winning filmmaking team Gary Oldman, and producer Douglas Urbanski, to develop an original series, “Deep Web.” Scott Gold (“Under The Dome”) will serve as Executive Producer and Writer.

This Spike original series, inspired by a recent TIME Magazine cover story on the Silk Road online marketplace, is the incredible saga of an ambitious computer aficionado in Silicon Valley who, with the help of his friends, evolves into an internet underworld crime boss fueled by a web portal where one can buy anything ­ from a kidney to cocaine to a rocket-launcher.

Known for their motion pictures, this will mark a first time entry for Oldman/Urbanski as Executive Producers of a television series. “This is part of a long term strategy of spreading our creative wings into other platforms,” said Urbanski.

“The opportunity to work on a first class project with Tony, and the dedication Spike has brought to the entire enterprise is exactly what Doug and I have been seeking, and frankly, one we could not pass up,” said Oldman from London where he is currently filming.

“Deep Web” will be Executive Produced by Krantz, Oldman and Urbanski. Drew Comins, who originally sourced the TIME magazine article and EVP of Flame Ventures, will serve as Co-Executive Producer.

Flying Studios Pictures is the production company partnership of long-term partners Gary Oldman and Douglas Urbanski. Doug Urbanski, in addition to his many Tony Award® nominated Broadway productions, is known as the nearly three decade long manager and business partner of Oldman; films he has produced include “Nil By Mouth” (British Academy Award Winner Best British Film), “The Contender” (3 Academy Award Nominations), and “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” (British Academy Award Winner Best British Film).

New York, NY, September 15, 2014 – Langley Productions and Spike TV will honor the memory of long-time “COPS” audio technician Bryce Dion with a special episode featuring some of his best work on Saturday, September 20 at 8:00pm ET/PT.

Bryce Dion was a 7-year veteran of “COPS” who was tragically killed during production on August 26 in Omaha, NE.  The one-hour special will be comprised of clips from his work. The tribute displays his courage and commitment to showing the challenges faced by law enforcement.

“Bryce had a passion for life and his work, and was always the first one to help anyone in need. He will best be remembered for a smile that never faded. All of us who knew him or worked with him on “COPS”, as well as the many friends he made working on documentaries and other shows, mourn his passing,” said Morgan and John Langley, Executive Producers of “COPS.”

Bryce was considered to be the best at his craft by many who worked with him, and had recently been promoted to Audio Supervisor after seven years with Langley Productions.

“I Am Evel Knievel” will combine original exclusive interviews with archival footage of this larger- than-life character to tell Knievel’s incredible story. Featured interviews include Matthew McConaughey, Kid Rock, Michelle Rodriguez, Guy Fieri, Robbie Maddison, and family members including sons Kelly and Robbie, and former wives Linda Knievel and Krystal Kennedy-Knievel.

The enduring legacy of Evel Knievel is the unforgettable death-defying jumps. The documentary will feature footage of Evel’s greatest jumps, including the seminal Snake River Canyon and Caesars Palace jumps. The film also showcases Knievel’s rise from a small town rebel in Butte, Montana, to a cultural icon whose rise to superstardom was built on nerves of steel and the ability to get up and do it again no matter the severity of the fall. He lived life like every day was his last, which led to a tumultuous life filled with stunts no man would ever dream of, encompassing meteoric success, wild hubris, egomaniacal mistakes and ultimately redemption.

“I Am Evel Knievel” is a journey of discovery, led by those who knew him best and were inspired to achieve greatness of their own. It is the untold story of this legendary figure who gave birth to the culture and the meaning of the word “extreme.” “My dad proceeded through life as if limitations of his own imagination, courage and abilities did not exist – it was really something to grow up with,” stated Kelly Knievel.

Spike is broadcasting “I Am Evel Knievel” honoring the 40 year anniversary of the famous Snake River Canyon jump, where Knievel miraculously survived an attempt to clear the canyon in a rocket-powered cycle, the Skycycle X-2.

“When Evel hit the ground hard, he hit the bullseye in an America that was hungry for heroes, hungry for men who scoffed at danger and walked away from death,” said Director/Producer Derik Murray. “Evel Knievel was the first, the original, the craziest daredevil that ever lived.  He did it on heavier bikes, and he did it without the technology and experience that comes with today’s action sports heroes.”

Spike TV’s Kevin Kay, Jaimee Kosanke and Christopher Martello serve as Executive Producers along with Murray, Paul Gertz, Kent Wingerak, and Robert Pirooz, as well as Kelly Knievel and Ron DiNicola. The documentary is the latest in Spike TV’s original “I Am” series. The network debuted the critically acclaimed “I Am Steve McQueen” earlier this year and ‘I Am Bruce Lee” in 2012, also produced by Murray.

Ted Gold Named Senior Vice President, Scripted Original Series, Spike TV

Los Angeles, CA, September 2, 2014 - Ted Gold has been named to the newly created position of Senior Vice President, Scripted Original Series, Spike TV, it was announced today by Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, to whom he will report.

In his new position Gold will lead a newly-created scripted development team and will oversee all scripted programming for Spike, from development through production.   Gold’s responsibilities will include devising a competitive and creative strategy to further Spike as a home for compelling scripted programming.

“Ted’s eye for great material, strong relationships and competitive tenacity, makes him perfectly suited to lead our new scripted development team,” said Levy. “Ted will play an integral role on my team as we continue to create programming for our ever-broadening audience.”

Justin Lacob, Vice President, Original Series, will now be reporting to Gold as part of the newly-formed scripted development team. Lacob joined Spike in June 2011 and has overseen the development and production of one of Spike’s highest rated original series, “Bar Rescue.” He will continue to work on non-scripted projects as well, overseen by Chris Rantamaki, Senior Vice President, Original Series.

Gold previously served as President of Television and Executive Producer at Parkes +Macdonald/Universal Television, under an overall deal with NBCUniversal, where he developed projects for HBO, Showtime, Amazon, ABC, USA, and NBC and produced the Neil Cross/John Malkovich series, “Crossbones” for NBC.

Prior to that, Gold was Head of Television for Deuce Three Productions/CBS Paramount Television where he spearheaded all television business and development for Academy Award winning filmmaker, Curtis Hanson. Gold also served as Senior Vice President, Series Development at FOX where he oversaw all dramatic programming including “Bones,” “Prison Break,” and “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”

Gold’s previous stints in television include serving as Senior Vice President, Series Development for Spelling Television; Vice President, Creative Affairs, Alliance/Atlantis; and Director of Development, Drama & Longform for New World Entertainment.
