NEW YORK, May 2, 2013 – Spike TV’s Guys Choice (#GuysChoice), Hollywood’s biggest boys night out, announced today that Academy Award^®-winner Ben Affleck will receive the evening’s highest honor, “Guy of the Year.” The always A-List, modern tribute to the most important manchievements of the year in sports, music, television and film will tape on Saturday, June 8 at the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA and premieres Wednesday, June 12 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Top honors in addition to Affleck include: Jimmy Kimmel receiving the “Funniest M.F.” award, which puts him in the company of comedic legends and previous winners Chris Rock, Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Seth MacFarlane; Vince Vaughn being honored for being so money with the coveted “Guycon” award; Kevin Hart’s monumental year on stage celebrated with the first-ever ‘Stand-Up of the Year” award; ‘Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke accepting the “Holy Grail of Hot” award; and Felix Baumgartner receiving the “Mankind” award, honoring his  world record free-fall space jump of 127,852.4 feet last October.  Triumph The Insult Comic Dog will once again return to carry on his tradition of roasting the “Douchebags of the Year.”

LOS ANGELES, CA, June 7, 2012 – Spike TV’s “Guys Choice,” the star-studded sixth annual tribute to the lords of guydom, took place Saturday night at the Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles with a cadre of unforgettable moments.   The only celebration of its kind, gathering the biggest names in music, movies, sports and entertainment, premieres on Spike TV Saturday, June 9 (9:00 PM – 11:00 PM ET/PT).

Justin Timberlake was surrounded by members of the United States Armed Forces onstage while accepting the “Troops Choice” Entertainer of the Year award.

“The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to director Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” trilogy, was named the year’s “Most Manticipated” movie, with Nolan and the Caped Crusader himself, Christian Bale, accepting the award from Mark Wahlberg on the film’s behalf.

Reuniting for the first time since its release in 2003, Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson and director Todd Phillips were on hand for the induction of “Old School” to the Guy Movie Hall of Fame.  The honor was bestowed upon them after a rousing introduction from John C. Reilly.  “Old School” is the sixth movie to receive the coveted award, joining the elite company of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” “GoodFellas,” “Swingers,” “There’s Something About Mary” and “Fight Club.”

Adam Sandler joined previous winners Keith Richards, Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford as a recipient of the “Brass Balls” award, while “Ted” director, writer, and star Seth MacFarlane was named “Funniest M.F.”.  Matthew McConaughey received the “Guycon” award from his “Magic Mike” costar Channing Tatum for nearly two decades of memorable characters he has brought to life, from “Dazed and Confused” to “Tropic Thunder” to “Eastbound & Down.”

In one of the night’s most memorable moments, former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand was bestowed the 2012 Guysman Trophy for his courage and determination in his efforts to recover from a spinal cord injury suffered on the field.  LeGrand’s continued defiance of his doctors’ expectations was honored after an introduction by New Jersey native Ray Liotta.

Additionally, five-time NBA champion and living basketball legend Kobe Bryant received the “Choice Baller Award” for his record setting achievements on the hardwood.

NEW YORK, NY – June 10, 2011 – Spike TV has launched an extensive social-media foray for today’s, Friday, June 10, network premiere of “Guys Choice.”  The network has teamed with Facebook, GetGlue, GroupMe, instagram, Shazam and Twitter and will tap into each of its partners’ specialties to help drive awareness, tune-in and multi-platform engagement with the show.  The event, which taped on Saturday, June 4 at Sony Studios, has already seen a burst of activity from its pre-show voting on Facebook, to celebrity tweeting during taping and talent utilizing the backstage SmileBooth to pose with members of the Armed Forces.  The network plans to share these special celeb photos with all social media partners during the on-air telecast. Spike is thrilled to also announce that “Guys Choice” will be the first-ever US televised award show to utilize Shazam.

Facebook:

Spike TV created an exclusive Facebook tab for its “Guys Choice” voting initiative. This was launched in May to coincide with the announcement of this year’s nominees and was promoted to initially over 300,000 Spike fans. This year saw a 115% increase in voting due to fans utilizing Facebook and sharing their picks amongst their friends.

GetGlue

Spike TV worked with GetGlue, the leading social network for entertainment, to create exclusive “Guys Choice” stickers in advance of the show to drive awareness and generate additional buzz.  There are also a number of stickers that fans will be able to unlock during the June 10 premiere by checking in on GetGlue.com or the mobile apps.

GroupMe

As of June 1, Spike TV’s “Guys Choice” is an official GroupMe featured group. Users are encouraged to create their own “Guys Choice” group to talk about the event with their friends. Additionally, Spike TV will provide exclusive content and tune-in reminders to all of the featured groups.  Spike TV promoted GroupMe during the June 4 taping, pre-show and on its Facebook and Twitter accounts. Spike TV’s “Guys Choice” is also featured on: GroupMe.com/spikeguyschoice and will promote it through its social media channels.

Instagram

During the June 4 taping, the network utilized its official Spike Instagram account and had a roving photographer shooting and sharing pictures from all over the event featuring MAN-bassador Stacey Kiebler and talent who attended the show – including the red carpet, in-show and backstage.  Pictures will be posted to Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.  Spike TV will tag pictures with the @usernames and the #guyschoice hashtag to improve discoverability and encourage user participation.

Shazam

Spike TV’s “Guys Choice” has partnered with Shazam®, the world’s leading mobile discovery company, and will be the first-ever US based awards program to use Shazam for TV to give the audience access to additional content on a “second screen,” their mobile device. The audio broadcast of the show will be ingested by Shazam and select moments of the show, including appearances by Mark Wahlberg and Ben Affleck, will invite viewers to use Shazam to access exclusive related content.

Spike TV has been Tweeting about the event since the first press release in May announcing the nominees.  #GuysChoice has been actively promoted on Spike.com and Facebook driving over 1100 tweets with the hashtag and 7 milliion impressions to date.  Spike has also been retweeting its fans who use #GuysChoice.  MAN-bassador Stacey Keibler will be the Red Carpet/Twitter host in advance of airing, during taping and for the online pre-show prior to the network on-air premiere.  Spike will also feature #GuysChoice and other show-related hashtags on-screen during the network premiere on June 10.

NEW YORK, June 3, 2011 – Spike TV has announced that it will present two of its most celebrated honors to entertainment giants Keith Richards and Sean Penn during the 2011 “Guys Choice” event.  Rock God Keith Richards will be awarded with the shows’ Brass Balls honor for his contributions to the music industry, while Penn will reunite with cast members of “Fast Times At Ridgemont High” as the iconic coming-of-age comedy is inducted into the Guy Movie Hall of Fame.  Both honors will be presented by Academy Award winning actor Robert De Niro.  Taping Saturday, June 4th at the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA, the fifth annual event premieres Friday, June 10 at 9:00 PM ET/PT.

Born and raised in England, Keith Richards is widely considered one of the most iconic rock guitarist to ever grace the stage.  In 1962, Richards teamed with Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman, Brian Jones and Ian Stewart to form the Rolling Stones and, in 1963, the group signed with Decca Records, beginning a run atop the music industry with international smash hits such as “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Brown Sugar,” and “Start Me Up,” among many others.  With Richards’ virtuoso guitar work prominent on each Stones song, Rolling Stone magazine named him the 10^th greatest guitarist of all-time in 2003.  In 2007, Richards was featured on the big-screen alongside Johnny Depp in the role of Captain Teague in“Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and can most recently be seen in the same role in the recently released “On Stranger Tides.”  In October 2010, Richards released his best-selling autobiography “Life,” which is nominated for a 2011 “Guys Choice” award in the Literary Achievement category.  Richards joins luminaries Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford as Brass Balls recipients.

To Be Crowned Funniest M.F. At 2011 “Guys Choice”

The Fifth Annual Event Premieres Friday, June 10 At 9 PM ET/PT

NEW YORK, May 26, 2011 – Spike TV will present comedy icon Jim Carrey with the Funniest M.F. award at this year’s “Guys Choice” bash.  Funniest M.F. is one of the night’s premiere honors as previous winners include fellow standouts Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and most recently, Chris Rock.   Taping Saturday, June 4th at the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA, the fifth annual event premieres Friday, June 10 at 9:00 PM ET/PT.

“When considering all the motherf***ers working today, we determined that Jim Carrey was by far the funniest of them all,” said Casey Patterson, EVP, event production, talent and studio relations, Spike TV.   “Jim Carrey is a comedic genius who has created some of the most iconic and indelible characters in film and TV. We’re thrilled to be honoring him.”

Jim Carrey began his illustrious career in 1990 as a cast member on FOX’s sketch comedy show, “In Living Color” where he shined brightest as accident-prone safety inspector Fire Marshall Bill and masculine female bodybuilder Vera de Milo.  In 1994, Carrey was cast as the lead character in the hugely successful “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” a role that launched him into stardom.  Since then Carrey has won two Golden Globes, for his performances in “Man on the Moon” and “The Truman Show,” and has starred in a countless number of memorable comedies including “Dumb and Dumber,” “The Mask,” “The Cable Guy,” “Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls,” “Me, Myself and Irene,” “Bruce Almighty,” “Liar Liar,” “Yes Man,” “I Love You Phillip Morris,” among others.  Carrey can next be seen starring as Tom Popper in “Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” out in theaters June 17th.
